bodminman Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 Hi there, We're a boarding school and surprisingly I have any now been asked if I can get allow an XBox One through to the internet. However, I wanted to know if on the XBox you can firstly connect to the wifi and then open up a browser and get the Lightspeed captive portal page. Would/could this be a possibiliy? At least then the pupil will have appropriate filtering in place and get disconnected when they're supposed to be going to bed. Cheers
GTX Posted December 4, 2015 Posted December 4, 2015 When you say "when they need to go to bed" what if they want to download a the game overnight when there is less usage on the network?

zeeshell Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 If you can get an Xbox One on-hand to test, that's been my experience in the past with all other web filters. They can open IE on the console and then hit the portal for auth, then continue through after. If you can't get one to test, let me know and I'll try it out.
Edu-IT Posted December 8, 2015 Posted December 8, 2015 A quick Google suggests this won't work. Many having issues with hotel wifi, for example, which will use captive portal in some cases. Can't you create another SSID on your wireless, that the Xbox's can connect to, but isn't required to authenticate on the portal? If you can control when that SSID is available you can turn it off at set times?
