Work won't accept my new bank details.....

Probably totally my fault but......

 

Changed my bank about 11 months ago and my old bank did this thing where they would forward on any income so we wouldn't lose any income, this would happen until December.

I finally remembered to change it over, sent the form to the payroll dept but they want my old Account number and sort code as a reference. Spoke to them about it as I have no idea if I still have any papers with these details on, but they won't accept my new acocunt details without my old ones.

 

Their reasoning for not accepting it....

 

"That could be anyones account information"

 

What on earth? why would I transfer all my income into someone elses account? So now some how I've gotta find my old account number and sort code.

 

I had a similar thing when I changed address, they wanted proof that it was my address, is it just me or does no one trust anyone anymore?

Can you not just bring in a new bank statement with your new acc. no, sort code and other froms of ID? Then there is no way to say it isn't you and no doubt you'll have to sign something acknowledging changes too.

 

Sounds odd to me, but I'm no accountant.

If you used the bank switching service, are you sure they haven't already made that arrangement with your employer? The 13 months thing is just a safety net for anything that gets missed.

So after spending about 30 mins on the online chat to Natwest who don't have any record of my previous accounts, work have finally agreed to take my new details without my old ones, but I had to send them an email stating that I used to bank with Natwest and agree to the change.

 

Weird system if you ask me.
