Hi

We use SIM's and PAR's we are on occasion getting a slight performance issue when we run Reports in either SIM's or PAR's users have issues accessing the systems or they become unresponsive for a short time I can see that it is an issue with CPU as this seems to hit about 80%. We are using Windows 2012 with SQL 2012, the Server has plenty of resources CPU and RAM and issue is only intermittent. This has only been issue over the last few weeks, one thing I have noticed is the SIM's database is 8.6 GB which seems high as I can remember this only being 1.5 to 2GB as the normal sometime back not sure this is relevant though.

Please do not share scripts - go through your support unit.

That's what I was heading towards.

Shrinking database changes the recovery mode and can seriously screw up your backups. Make sure scripts are approved by whoever has to fix your system after it gets botched up!

Its more a question of, is your script now out of date? Folks wont know unless they contact support. As a wise man once said todays fix is tomorrows bug.

I can see your point Phil and we have raised the issue with our LEA our Support provider who have raised this with Capita we only raised this last week but speaking to our LEA at least two other schools in the borough are having similar issues and have been having these for some time and I think the LEA have tried various things but is difficult as the issue is intermittent and the LEA have been speaking to Capita for a little time now but without anyone coming up with any real solutions. Feel free to PM me or for someone from Capita to PM me and I would be happy to give you email of our support guy at the LEA end if this helps. To be honest I go through our support guys at the LEA first as they are very good and only really raise a question or issue on here when we need to ask the question further a field as Edugeek is great for that and the expertise on here :).

Obviously I was going to check with the LEA before running any scripts to make sure these were appropriate and up to date.

@Steven_Cleaver thanks Steven I was concerned that anyone could pose on this forum and ship dangerous/malicious scripts!

@PhilNeal thanks and no problem and can completely see where your coming from and you are completely right, just contacting one of the other schools to see how long the issue has been going on and they said they originally raised the issue a few months back in regards to performance issues it seems to happen when we run big bulk routines in SIM's so things like large reports, Census or large PAR's reports which access the SIM's database I can pretty much duplicate the issue by usually running a large SIM's report I have to extract some data.

So would be happy to hear if anyone else has ideas on where to look :) or how to Progress cheers.
