Email from Inventry

Hi All

 

We have had quite a few schools who use Inventry receive the following email:

 

"Dear Customer

As of the latest version of SIMS (2015 autumn release) Capita have changed the required permissions structure for partners such as InVentry.

Due to this the user that InVentry uses to connect to SIMS needs to be updated with the additional permission "TPSuperUser".

Please ask whoever is in charge of your SIMS system to make this amendment, for clarity InVentry will now require the following permissions.

 

• Attendance manager
  
• Personnel Officer
  
• Third Party Reporter
  
• TPSuperUser
  

Please note that until this change has been made you may be unable to update from SIMS or write marks to SIMS after your autumn update.

Please contact the support team if you have any questions regarding this, however please bear in mind that InVentry staff do not have the required permission level to make this alteration for you.

Does anyone else here not like the idea of giving out Personnel Officer and TPSuperUser to third parties of SIMS? Also does anyone know why Inventry would want such a high level of access to staff information please?

Definitely not comfortable. However, it depends on what they need.

What are they doing for you, what data is required.

 

You could create your own custom group only giving them access to the data they need, but you'd need them to specify exactly what that is.

 

I can imagine TPSuperUser is okay. Haven't looked at what access it has, I'm assuming it's going to be mostly the database ID fields, but that is what T P Reporter was for wasn't it.

 

If in doubt, have a look at the group, and certainly ask them to explain what they need. Just because Capita say they need it, or they say they did, you shouldn't give it away without consideration.

I would push back with "Can show me the permissions you actually need, not what permission groups your developers told you to ask for".

I'm sure I've had similar requests before and it was just a blanket request in case they needed a list of staff names. Giving them personnel rights is overkill though.

We don't use it for staff at my school, but I was a little intrigued too, so I asked and it sounds understandable to me...

 

Personnel Officer is required if the customer wants InVentry to collect personnel checks from SIMS (DBS, right to work etc), most people want this so they can use InVentry to automatically notify people about DBS checks which are about to expire. A lesser permission can be given if the customer does not want InVentry to manage these checks but we obviously ask for permission which will allow all aspects of the software to work.
