I have decided to use the new R2 print management software for deploying my printers across the network however it seems that there is no way to set the default printer.

I used to use vb scripts to both deploy and set the default printers but was hoping to move away from that.

Any one got any ideas on how i can set the default printer?

Also, if the only way is to go back to scripting for the default part of the process how do i ensure that the print management server has applied the printer to the client BEFORE the script tries to set a default printer?

Cheers all

You can't...

For something less messy you can always try a small application I created, its in the downloads section called psprint.

R2 Print Management works alphabetically, so rename the printer you want default.

For example, at the one school (where I have multiple photocopiers), I named the default printer "Admin Photocopier".

To keep things simple, I keep the printer name and sharename the same.

We moved all our printers onto the GPO based print management, then realised MS somehow managed to miss off the default printer feature then had to move the lot back onto logon scripts... progress eh

I've just made up a nicer logon script that maps printers by OU and security group (colour access) I'll stick with that until someone in the dev team remembers to add the bleedin obvious onto the Print Management console...
