Quackers Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Anybody managed to get the new Sync client MS talks about (both for Windows and OS X), signed up a few days ago and still waiting... https://preview.onedrive.com/sync desperate for the new Mac Client as the previous beta was not great and last updated in January 2015.
pscott Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 AM running Version 17.3.6273 (Dogfood) on Mac, had no issue's yet, full syncing to local drive.
Quackers Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 How's it better? Selective Sync, and on the Windows side Group Policies to control certain things.
Ashm Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 How's it better? The hope is that this will actually be a working sync client, where you don't have to "repair" the synced library every few months (and then having to match what files had and hadn't synced prior to the repair)! We've tried to use it with a number of staff as their primary storage area and it's certainly been a painful experience.
steve Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 Been running it on W10 / Office C2R 2016 for about 2 months without any issues. Prior to this the old client was very flaky for me, needed to re-sync on a regular basis. Unifies OneDrive and OneDrive for Business under a single interface too.
jaminben Posted November 26, 2015 Posted November 26, 2015 (edited) I got the email to try it but there is no files inside the zipped folder except for lots of instructional word documents... still reading through them but it's funny to see Windows 8.1 isn't supported until next Q1 next year!!! EDIT Found the link for the executable in the instructions. Edited November 26, 2015 by jaminben
browolf Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 i got an email entitled "The preview of the new OneDrive for Business sync client is now available for download. " but the link to the instructions goes to an "Internal Server Error!" :-(
sparkeh Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 i got an email entitled "The preview of the new OneDrive for Business sync client is now available for download. Sagima Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Bit miffed I missed the sign up. I've been waiting patiently for this
pete Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 ^ I think I have downloaded copies (installers + instructions) from October-ish. IIRC I got side-tracked before testing them. PM if you want them, but I'm not sure they're current. 1
sparkeh Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 (edited) Anyone tried this on a Mac yet? Just tells me that the app is damaged and can't open :/ Edited December 11, 2015 by sparkeh
sparkeh Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Windows version seems to work quite well. Selective sync is a good addition. Oh and to save some heartache, the preview doesn't work on 8.1 yet (or vista!) - its 7, 8 and 10 compatible. 1
sparkeh Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Anyone tried this on a Mac yet? Just tells me that the app is damaged and can't open :/ Idiot - Had app security on Store and identified developers, have to switch to allowing all apps
pete Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 ^ You're not missing much. On Yosemite it goes "I shall completely ignore your system proxy settings and just sulk". 1
sparkeh Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 ^ You're not missing much. On Yosemite it goes "I shall completely ignore your system proxy settings and just sulk". Hmm I did read in the notes about potential problems with authenticating proxies. Running El Capitan here and its syncing ok.
browolf Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Oh and to save some heartache, the preview doesn't work on 8.1 yet (or vista!) - its 7, 8 and 10 compatible. well that explains why I just couldn't get it to work on an 8.1 laptop.
pete Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 Hmm I did read in the notes about potential problems with authenticating proxies. Running El Capitan here and its syncing ok. I think non-transparent proxies generally and wasn't really expecting it to work - Dropbox and Google Drive work fine, OneDrive has never really worked. For comparison purposes, Lync 2013 works fine for Skype for Business with Office365 contact lookup with a system proxy on Yosemite. I'm holding off on El Capitan until Xmas when I'll have time to check all my tools work on it before upgrading.
Arthur Posted December 16, 2015 Posted December 16, 2015 still waiting The new client has just been released... www.edugeek.net/forums/cloud-services/163650-onedrive-business-next-generation-sync-client-now-available.html
sparkeh Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 So, after working perfectly, the latest update brings the daily crashing 'feature' back. Not amused. Anyone else suffering?
