DrCheese Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Hi all, How do you guys host your websites? At the mo we have a virtual server provided by our ISP, but it's not overly reliable. As we're moving away from them fairly soonish anyway I'm looking at moving to a webhost, but none seem to accept purchase orders as payment, rather we need to use a credit card (The school doesn't have one....) I don't know how common this is in schools
RichCowell Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 Hi all, How do you guys host your websites? At the mo we have a virtual server provided by our ISP, but it's not overly reliable. As we're moving away from them fairly soonish anyway I'm looking at moving to a webhost, but none seem to accept purchase orders as payment, rather we need to use a credit card (The school doesn't have one....) I don't know how common this is in schools I got my school site moved to Schudio (School Website Design | App | Wall | Web | VoiceSchool Website Design from Schudio, Lancashire) within weeks of seeing how good it is with the ANME site (Association of Network Managers in Education ANME)... They deal mainly with schools so accept PO, and their service has been great, migrating all the current content over in under 6 weeks in my case... Can't recommend them highly enough...
localzuk Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 School site? Hosted internally. Personal sites, on VPS/Dedicated servers from OVH.
Chris_ Posted November 23, 2015 Posted November 23, 2015 We use Managed Hosting | Dedicated Servers & Cloud Hosting | UKFast for our school website. Not had any issues since moving to them from RM.
GTX Posted November 25, 2015 Posted November 25, 2015 School site? Hosted internally. Personal sites, on VPS/Dedicated servers from OVH. I love OVH. Had one server for over 2 years and the only down time was when someone config'ed the main switch for all the Data centers wrong and took out the whole network for 15 mins. On the other hand OP. Make a VM with Centos 6 and use CentOS Web Panel | Free Linux Web Hosting Control Panel
DrCheese Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 Thanks guys - I was really struggling to find any that didn't want credit card. I'm loathe to keep putting stuff on my personal one and petty cashing it back! Thanks
DrCheese Posted November 25, 2015 Author Posted November 25, 2015 I would host insite, but it's handy to have it external so if there's any failures (i.e we had a VMWare host failure a few months ago that locked up the whole datacentre, DAMN YOU VMWARE 6 BUGS!!!) it doesn't take the site down & you can put an alert on it mentioning x/y/z is down
