Linked Documents Specified Path

Hi all,

 

I'm having an issue with SIMS where a report for a student posted in the linked documents area is throwing up a path error when members of staff are attempting to access a read-only version of the document. The XML file is being deposited into the 'My SIMS Documents' location within a users' documents (located on a file server, and mapped via GPO for every user), but when SIMS attempts to open the document, it can't find this file. I'm wondering if there is a way within SIMS of pointing this default file location elsewhere (i.e. the C drive on the local machine), or whether this is coded into SIMS and is impossible to change?

I could be completely wrong, but i had a similar issue the other day. The solution was: putting the IP address into the DMS settings instead of the computer name.

You've got dns problems, you'll have problems when you move to Solus3

Thank you for your reply. I have previously registered a case with Capita, but they were less than helpful unfortunately. They told me that I either had permissions issues (which doesn't seem likely as each user has full control over their own area), or as a work around; to just put the reports on a global share that all members of staff can access (which we have now done). I don't mind using the workaround, but it would be nice to eventually get something sorted.

Just go get this clear in my mind:

 

Person A (admin staff perhaps) runs all the student reports for a year group

Person B (form tutor) wants to read the report through linked documents

 

In this instance surely the document needs to be in a central location - not on their local C: drive as one example you gave in your original post.

 

We have ours mapped to our SIMS Document Management Server which staff have permissions to read from.

Users dont have file permissions to the dms files, like the sql db (mdf), dms is basically a web service. So the documents are saved to dms and they can be accessed by anyone - permissions is done by sims. So it being a permissions is nonsense
