So a student thought it would be a great idea to setup a boot-up password on a Dell Latitude E5530 laptop. I know on a desktop you use the jumper to remove the password, but after taking apart the laptop I can't seem to find the equivalent. After some Googling I can't find any solid guides on how to remove the password either. Is anybody able to advise me on how to remove the password?

If it doesn't have a BIOS battery inside, you can ring Dell, provide proof of purchase and they should unlock it for you.

Also let this be a lesson learnt, set BIOS passwords!!

If the correct options are not set in Dell's you can set a hard drive and boot password without the BIOS password.

Do you have BIOS passwords set? We have had some instances on older revisions of the E5520 that had been in use by students for 2+ years where the BIOS would randomly decide set a boot up password to the same value as the BIOS password. Worth a shot...
