unixman_again Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 After spending thousands having one written, it was such a pile of poo (and did nothing) so it was never released. I have it on the department Android tablet and the boss has it on his iPhone as a memento of yet another failed IT project, where we the IT department weren't involved. Our new website is another case in point.
googlemad Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 We have one which cost an extortionate amount of money and hasn't been updated since last Christmas! I don't see the point myself, just design a decent mobile friendly website then your information is all kept in the same place
localzuk Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 We don't currently have one, but the plan is to create a wrapper app for our new website instead. Can't see a point in having a separate app - you'd just end up having to keep 2 things up to date instead of 1.

RichCowell Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 My school uses Schudio for its website - they have an app that can be used for all their sites... not on a unique app for us, but perfect for what we need it for really...

It just doubled the work and hardly anyone used it. Luckily we (not that I was involved) went with a company who just customised an app for each school so we didn't spend too much but it was still pointless. Lasted about 3 months I think

AJWhite1970 Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 We looked at it when we first looked at redesigning our website but the question of data and job duplication kept cropping up. In the end we designed the website completely in html5 and ensured it was fully mobile compliant which has taken away the need to have and maintain a separate app. Andrew

The vast majority of people are going to get their apps from the App Store, Google Play or the Windows store, they're not going to want to jump through hoops to get an app from a third party repository.
RLR Posted November 13, 2015 Posted November 13, 2015 We have an app for our students. It was created by a third party without any involvement from the IT Department. It was a project ran by our Digital Learning Director. I don't know much about the app but it's for Students only and uses iBeacons dotted around the school to give students information when they're close by. It's not used much at the moment but might change in the future. It's not available on the app store and has to be deployed via our MDM.

Appshed make it quite easy to get the apps. You just need the url. No hoops to jump through. Just thinking of schools who don't want to spend 0000's on getting an app developed.

Currently it is homework only, but we're adding behaviour, attendance, SPM reports etc between now and next Summer.
