blu4 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Hi guys, I'm doing an exchange server, I've installed the server and got all the pre-requisites however when I go to the GUI to configure servers, mailboxes and so on, I don't have ANY actual options. Below is a picture explaining what I mean. I don't have the + plus symbol next to the organization. Never done exchange, so I am green as grass.
featured_spectre Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Are you logged in as you, the domain admin, or the server admin for that server.
cpjitservices Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Need to be logged in as an Exchange Administrator... and also how long have you left it ? Exchange can be a heavy beast depending on spec of the machine so this bit might take a while to load. Failing that, try restarting the services / reboot the server.

ITGURU Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 if this is Exchange 2010 check it on the server - if it loads there, it's a permissions issue or problem with the management tools install.
blu4 Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 It's a VM. How do I check if the management tools are installed properly?
cpjitservices Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Are you accessing the Exchange server directly and running Exchange Management Console or are you doing it from a remote machine ?
blu4 Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 (edited) Are you accessing the Exchange server directly and running Exchange Management Console or are you doing it from a remote machine ? I remote to it from my computer, logged on as domain admin. I've also added every possible available exchange permissions to the domain admin account. Edited November 12, 2015 by blu4
cpjitservices Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Remote Desktop or via the MMC tools ?

cpjitservices Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Have you tried rebooting or waiting a while as Exchange can be slow at times ?
blu4 Posted November 12, 2015 Author Posted November 12, 2015 Have you tried rebooting or waiting a while as Exchange can be slow at times ? I'll leave it overnight and see if that does anything. It's not a very powerful VM
SHimmer45 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 hardware requirements for exchange 2010> are pretty high we did a fresh install of exchange 2012 last summer and it is a ram muncher. attempting to run it on the type of hardware we used to run exchange 2003 on would have not been funny at all. thats progress for you.
cpjitservices Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 I'll leave it overnight and see if that does anything. It's not a very powerful VM Yeah Exchange 2010 is a powerful beast... needs a big V8 or V12 to run it. I'd leave it for a while and see how it gets on.

What is it showing / saying in the right hand panel and event viewer?
blu4 Posted November 13, 2015 Author Posted November 13, 2015 Okay guys, I've managed to fix the problem. I found a script on a website, I ran it and it worked right away set __COMPAT_LAYER=RUNASINVOKER set COMPLUS_Version=v2.0.50727 START "C:\Windows\System32\mmc.exe" "C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\Bin\Exchange Management Console.msc" Exit Thanks for the help!
