Can guarantee if that was role reversed there'd be outcry of racism and people needing arresting.

I understand that everyone has their right to free speech and this is what this old man was doing (whether you agree with preaching or not). I think they where being very intimidating and unfortunately do feel the same. If the role was reversed it'd be an outcry and all over the media.

And the point of posting this is?

To start a discussion about the topic.

I think we all know that anyone mocking anyone else for their beliefs isn't acceptable. That it was Muslims in this example is irrelevant; it could well have been Buddhists attacking Muslims or Protestants attacking Catholics or...

I cannot see what there is to debate other than the ability of some sections of the human race to behave indefensibly towards those who are different whether by race, colour, creed or (dis)ability

I agree although I wasn't sure really who was in the right and wrong here. Is the preacher in the wrong for actively preaching and angering others around him, including the fact he said that all muslims will go to hell as "Allah" isn't a real god or do you think he has the right to speak up like that and not expect intimidating behaviour from people of other beliefs. My issue is that the 'internet' and the way they have portrayed this video make it sound like the muslim group is all at wrong, but I see a bit from both sides!?

Going off on a bit of a tangent, when I worked in a shopping centre there used to be this guy who preached outside. One day he was going on about sin, and how we were all sinners etc and one passer-by took exception to this and started the old "You callin' me a sinner?" schtick. Preacher Guy replied that all of us (and he included himself) were sinners and got slapped down. When he got up, he literally "turned the other cheek" and willingly took another slap. Luckily the other guy saw that various people were thinking about stepping in and walked off. I always had a little bit of admiration for Preacher Guy after that; good to see that he stood by his preachings.

Wish he would have found another spot, though.

You could have labeled this topic "Christian threatens public with eternal torture and labels all Muslims as murderers"

I do find it comical that the majority of Christians / Muslims don't know they worship the same thing, the old bloke saying "Allah isn't a real god" is kind of shooting himself in the foot, its just the word god in Arabic. .

I expected a poor old man on the high street surrounded by Muslims, not speakers corner.

People often do things like this, Youtube is full of it. Christian and Muslim have endless debates.

Although i agree had it been the other way around it would have been more attention paid to it. That is the PC world we live in, ironic.

I also expected something far more sinister. However, it seems that it's just harmless banter on Speakers' Corner or something similar. All concerned seem happy to engage each other.

To me, the discussion is as futile as arguing over how many angels can fit on the head of a pin. An utter waste of time.

I'll leave this statement by the incomparable Bertrand Russell, who in three and a half minutes sums up with far more eloquence and precision what would take me a day to convey.

The two aren't the same. Only Muslims would say that. The old guy is quite correct.

Could have... I only called it this because this is what the video was called on YouTube.

Speakers corner or not, there was no reason for them all to film it on their phones, chant whatever they where chanting at him and for that other bloke to yell down his ear IMO anyway.

Exactly, no matter what colour skin you have shouting in an old mans ear while your mates giggle and film it is disgusting. Scum is scum no matter what race.

Arabic speaking Christians call their deity of choice Allah.

Proof or it didn't happen :p

Allah is defined precisely in Islam. God is defined differently in Christianity... therefore they aren't the same. They have the same root definition stemming from Judaism. Christianity doesn't stray from that definition. Islam adds its own. See here: Difference Between God and Allah | Difference Between | God vs Allah

That's just playing with dictionary definitions, they are referring to the same burning bush, Noah's ark, genocide of Sodem and Gommorah deity. Sure they have different beliefs and Christians discount Muhammad as a prophet just like Jewish people discount Jesus as a prophet.

If you want to get technical then the Jewish people don't believe in "God" they believe in "YHVH"

Hate using this site for a reference but its slightly more credible than Wikipedia I guess Why do many Arab Christians refer to God as “Allah”? • ChristianAnswers.Net

If you read the link, you'd see the fundamental differences. Islam is derived from the Judaic text so of course there are parallels.

I'm never going to confuse Allah with God, as I know that they're totally different. YHVH/ God - same deity. If you're happy to conflate the two then that's fine. Some people call cars cars, they don't care about the make or model. Same thing.

Islam is derived from the Christian texts, Jesus is a prophet in the Islamic faith the only thing Christians and Muslims differ on Jesus is his divinity. If you choose to distance yourself from the term Allah then that's your choice, The fact that Muslims believe in the Abrahamic god in their own way is theirs.
