Hello, I dropped my laptop my floor and seemed to have destroyed the hard drive. I do not care about the laptop i just care about the data on the HDD. When i plug it into a computer it loads it up in the BIO's by it's name but does not load it up. If i have it as a secondary drive it seemed to crash the main drive so i cannot even try and recover it. I have a theory that it's staying as a master drive while i'm booting the computer up.

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

As the BIOS recognises it, that just means that the controller is intact. The disk itself is most likely damaged - laptop 2.5" HDD are usually glass and can shatter, but more often the read heads jam or the disk surface has been damaged badly.

What I'm saying is, be prepared to lose the data on this disk. By all means try recovering it - an external caddy may help - but I would expect it to be unreadable now.

how do i make the drive a slave drive. (i know normally you push the pins in etc , but it's a small laptop HDD)

Unless the drive is an ancient parallel ATA Drive, you can't make it a master or a slave. SATA is point to point.

Sorry when I meant slave I meant basically plug the HDD into another computer and access it that way, not as the main drive on the laptop.

You just do that. Plug it in with the appropriate sized cables, and go.

A HDD docking station like this one will make that a lot easier in fairness.
