I had almost fogotten about these:

  • 27th Nov - Black Friday
  • 30th Nov - Cyber Monday

Although I think the only thing I brought on last years BF was a big bag of 72 Finish dishwasher tablets for £10!

They weren't the best present I've ever brought someone :(

I don't get what the fuss is about I looked at amazon last year and almost all of it was garbage they couldn't sell normally. Its not a thing for consumers its a way of emptying warehouses of old unwanted stock

The cynic in me says this has more to do with damaging profits later in the year and negative PR than any real 'fatigue' on the part of shoppers.

I am sure you're right.

However, I cannot get excited by black Friday. I hate shopping at the best of times. The full on warfare of the January sales is too much for me to bother with, so I definitely won't be out shopping on these dates. Electronic bargains maybe, but if I miss out then I am not going to worry unduly.

There aren't any bargains is the real irony, if I'm looking for a bargain I'll spend as much time as I want on HotUKDeals where you can find some true bargains available all year round from the comfort of your chair :)

I think it's hilarious that John Lewis are of the opinion that it's here to stay and they can't ignore it. I can't imagine a bad-tempered crowd at a John Lewis.

"Get out of the way Arabella, I want that chorizo chopping board set!"

"Stop right there heathen and unlay your hands upon my breadmaker!"

"Calm down Tarquin!"

"Never! You wouldn't know a mezzaluna from a mouli grater. It is mine!"

Some shops are reporting that Black Friday causes a dip in sales as people hold out to see if they can bag a bargain and then fail to buy at all.

Asda's decision may well be based in a steady trading securing them overall better sales than having madness on one day which leads to workload problems in the following week to ten days

In general you are right and I agree with you

But last year I was able to buy a few books, much cheaper than usual. This year I will try to find something else :)

Saying that, I did get an LG Blu-Ray player as a pressie for the in-laws at almost half price (£24.99 IIRC) last year.

Where is the best place to look?

I am after lots of stuff including an Xbox one controller (unless anyone knows where to get one cheaper - second hand is fine!)
