WOL computers in school

I want to send a WOL packet to all computers within the school at a certain time every morning because teachers are complaining that they take too long to load up. I have a program that will send a request to 1 PC at a time and I have to type in all the information. I was wondering if anyone knew of a way of sending a packet to all the computers on the network to switch them on?

Download wol.exe.

 

Use Angry IP scanner (another free download) to grab a list of all your mac addresses. Bung them all into a batch file and use sheduled tasks to run it.

 

I did some instructions a while back, I'll see if I can find them.

You mean an initial poweron in the morning?

 

I just go into the BIOS and set "wake on alarm" for 7.30am. All the suites power up at 7.30, gives them enough time to get themselves settled before the kids get in at 8.20 and thrash 'em.

if you set the wake on in the morning for 7.30 in the BIOS don't ya have to go to every computer b4 the holidays and disable them?

heh..not as such. CCTV runs 24/7, so I use a shutdown app and script to shut them back down, scheduled to run at 9.30am to give them time to update etc.

Slight hijack but I was wanting to do the same thing with WOL but have problems with it. From what I've read once the power goes off to the PC after it's shut down unless the 5v continues to come in you can't wake it on LAN e.g. shut down, turn off the socket then turn the socket back on?

@gshaw; I couldn't make sense of your post.. However, I think you were getting at the voltage that the computer maintains even after it's 'shutdown'.

 

If a computer is plugged in and the PSU is receiving power then there is always a current running through the motherboard/NIC. This is so that the wondrous 'wake on LAN' will work (I'm not sure if there is any other reason?)

 

So in order for wake on LAN to work the machine needs to be plugged in, and WOL needs to be enabled in the systems BIOS.

Then no, I don't think it will - once the power goes off, the PCs will need a "normal" power-on before WOL starts working again.
