a Bristol firm are producing themed "bionic" arms for kids with designs provided by Disney free of charge/licensing.

Looks pretty good, although this has been done for quite some time. (Not quite the flashing bells and whistles like these, though).

 

I used to work in an NHS centre where they made prosthetic limbs. Anything like this to help children particularly is good in my books, given the issues they face.

Our school is currently involved in a project to create prosethic hands for children in need for them around the UK...

 

latest update :

This project got put on the back burner for a while but we are now back in the game, this is the first complete hand we have printed here at work, it took quite a bit of fiddling to get it all together nicely without friction at the joins but its now ready to be sent off for review (after having ligaments to move fingers added). If we pass we then get to create hands for children in need anywhere in the UK..

The inside of the Palm and gauntlet will all be padded for comfort to protect the child from the rough 3d printed surface

 

Complete hand ready to have the ligaments added which will make the hand gasp items, the wires are adjusted using the 'tensioner' on the back of the write section...

The hand is multiple colours for a few reasons...

1. The parts were printed at very different times over the last few months

2. We have a child in the school that already uses one of these 'Raptor' hands and she loved the multi-coloured look (its the childs opinion that counts to me) plus the green sections glow in the dark which she loved.
