Hi Guys,

 

Not sure if I'm posting this in the correct area so feel free to move.

 

I've been asked to source some "decent" walkie talkies for use in fire drills and for dinner supervisors to use at lunchtime.

 

Your recommendations please!

Motorola. But you will get into a "decent" vs "how much?" loop very quickly. Cheap would be ok in a remote smallish site, but a big school near other users, you may need better sets with more discrimination, or a licensed sole use frequency*.

Nothing too fancy or OTT and reliable.

Kenwood ProTalk are used were I work.

We use Kenwood pro talk TK3501 here. Works well around our site which was built in 1960's with big 40cm thick walls and about 400m from each side. Also picks up at the rear of our field which is another 300m or so.

 

However, I would strongly recommend going down the digital radio route based on interference we come across sometime, it varies around the year. Or at least licensed band which is only something like £70 a year for a single site.

I'll second (third) the Kenwood pro's. Work pretty well over our large site.

I had a few of these Vitai 9900 from that site, they were great, don't forget the Ofcom license you need for Licensed radios.
