Domestic players rule really should have been suspended for a home World Cup.

I think it's a bad rule and should be scrapped, but it's there and has to be abided by. I think D'arcy is being unnecessarily harsh on the actual performance, but I also don't agree with Burgess being there. His union experience is limited, and much of it not spent playing centre, and I think Burrell would have been the better option. Lancaster's thinking - to me at least - is all over the place, because having selected Burgess for certain strengths, he then withdrew him at a point where Wales were playing the type of game that would have suited Burgess...when his physical presence may have been an advantage.

Keep it for the Six Nations & the Autumn Internationals, even for every other World Cup, but this time, this one time, the rule is doing more harm than good IMHO.

Hardly fair on the players who did make themselves available for all those games leading up to the tournament by staying here. Armitage is exactly the kind of player we're missing, one of the best in his position, so it's a big miss. The Aussies changed the rules and were able to bring back several players, and had we done the same a year or so ago and had Armitage playing since, then fair enough. But allowing him to turn up and play here and now and then wave goodbye again immediately afterwards is not the answer - in my view.

pooley Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Wales on 13 points, Australia 9 and England 6. It's 4 points for a win, 5 with a bonus point(4 tries). Bonus also for losing team being within 7 points. So if Australia beat England Saturday Wales and Australia will go through. If England win they go to 10 points plus the guarantee of 5 points from Uruguay game. Means they will have 15 points at least from the group stages. So.the Wales V Australia game would then become winner take all, with one of those teams going through with england. If anyone draws a game between now and then, all bets are off and my brain will melt. Sunday we will have a better idea of where all teams stand.

As was predictable, the quick turnaround put the bonus point win out of Wales' reach... so if both Wales and England lose to Aus, and if we'd taken the draw against Wales, England would have gone through by virtue of Mako Vunipola's last minute bonus point try on the opening night. Graargh! Why was Robshaw the only Englishman who couldn't predict that? Australia aren't invincible though. Only seen them play Fiji (didn't get the bonus point) and Uruguay (hardly a challenge) - so it could all still be to play for. If they lose to both Wales and England, after all, it could be the home nations going through (They won't though. Aus to top the group, Wales to run Aus close but still lose and come second. English hearts to break and Lancaster signing on at the job centre.)

featured_spectre Posted October 3, 2015 Posted October 3, 2015 Wales has been what I'd consider to be the best of tier 1 with New Zealand 2nd, England, south Africa and Australia tied for 3rd. Best of tier 2...well that has to go to Japan. No other team really stands out from the tier 2 teams. Canada are OK, USA are average. Romania and Georgia have done well respectively but just don't seem to be great.
