Can anyone recommend a projector

Hi All

 

Can anyone recommend a decent-ish DLP projector? I dunno.. resolution 1024x768, 2000 lumens? and can only spend around £400-500

We like the Benq MP721 DLP 2500 lumins £450 ish plus vat. Technoworld is normally our supplier

I would recommend any of the NEC prjectors under education and training;

We bought a NEC VT575 a couple of years ago for £700+ which is now discontinued. I recommend NEC highly.

Sanyo XW 50's. sleek, shiny and only 2 filters! Also around the £350-£400 mark from cpc anyways.

Epsons and NEC have been good for us.

We started installing the NEC VT52's a year or so ago. What I like about them is that everything (filter etc) seems to be accessible while still being ceiling mounted.

I would recomend the Epson EMP X5 for that res and 2000 ANSI, also the service spacing is better on this machine and has only 1 filter but are you replacing one as you may also have to take in to consideration the distance from the WhiteBoard, if you require further help or advise please IM me and i will ring you.

Projector Central have a calculator on their web-site that can help with throw to width ratios, and recommend brightness for differing scenarios.

I was under the impression with DLP's you had no filter to worry about only the bulb

We use the NEC 575's as well and they are awesome. Also Look great.

All projectors have filters, some HP ones I have inheritied don't appear to have a filter just a fine mesh on the vents but you have to vac that off as it turns all fluffy and not nice.

 

I agree with the Epson projectors they are nice bits of kit and if you search around you can sometimes find them with a free spare bulb.

 

Also why go for a DLP Projector? I'm taking them out of places to put LCD ones in as they are brighter and crisper than the DLPs, for the useage that happens in classrooms the LCD is king over DLP (LCD = better for powerpoint, word, active studio etc etc; DLP = better for movies) but TBH movies look fine on the LCDs anyway.

I was interested in DLP's as we just seem to be constantly cleaning projector filters, resetting filter timers etc.. at the end of the day I'm an IT person not a cleaner

It's not a cleaners responsibility to do that either...it's ITs responsibility, same as cleaning out the PC chassis, and wiping down screens/keyboards/mice IMO...

 

We just do ours on a floor by floor rota, once a month. Stuff the warning messages - some of those are just hopelesly pessemistic.
