Hey Guys

So I've got my Surface 3 running Windows 10 Pro perfectly although I still have one problem. Cortana won't activate.

At first the setting to turn Cortana on was greyed out so I changed my region to United Kingdom and downloaded all the English UK handwriting and speech options on my device, I also set the speech to default UK.

Since then the option to turn the new girl on is now available but when I do turn her on she displays the "Sorry I can't speak your language" message.

Bit confused on what to do now...? It is a license from the VLSC so does that disable her? Just as a note the Surface is owned by the school, I haven't stole a license :)

Thanks guys!!!

What was it originally set to language wise? I know during the tech preview it had to be English US etc to work. (On location and language/keyboard etc)

It does work on English UK, once every pack has been downloaded. Double check that all of your localisation settings are also set to English UK. Took me a while to tick through them all and get it working.

Thanks guys. I checked through everything I'd done again to ensure it was all set to English (UK). I then did a reboot and upon reboot it seemed to fix it... Strange issue.

did you do the upgrade they send you or did you use an image you downloaded from volume licencing?

Used the one from VLSC. If I'd of upgraded it'd of only come with the Windows 10 Home version and I needed to connect it to a domain so I wanted the Pro version anyway.

Well then, you either.....

A: downloaded the US version rather than the UK English one. Even if all the language packs are installed, Cortana aint working unless that first drop down box reads English UK when you install it.

B: When asked, you chose "this is a school or work machine" rather than "this is a personal device". No idea why this is the case but annoyed the hell out of me.

Both cases happened to me. I suffered so you don't have too but sounds like a reinstall is in order. Enjoy.
