My technicians are complaining that the build process is no longer applying WSUS updates at the end of the build; they've noticed it because when they go to shut down rebuilt PCs, they are prompting to update several/hundred updates.

Looking in the BuildClient log, it successfully starts and finishes the 'Get critical updates' build action with zero updates.

Does anyone know if a) this means it's getting (trying to get) critical WSUS updates, or something non-WSUS, and b) does your build process get all WSUS updates or just critical ones as part of the build?

I haven't built a client PC since we got WSUS 18 months ago so I don't see/know what is normal and what isn't!

I have the same issue with CC4, it's due to the amount of updates (I manually manage WSUS so there are 10x the number of updates).

I set the default options not to install updates at the end of the build, instead rely on WU to install them during normal operation, I've changed our settings to install updates over lunchtime and then reboot at the end of the school day.

I'll see what happens.

We're also struggling to get updates installed automatically at shutdown - we have to log in and select them in batches - which is possibly the same problem with numbers.

We have just been upgraded to CC4.5. We noticed this problem after our first build. The RM guy was still on site and contacted his third line. Apparently, the problem is a known issue with the latest version of the Postgres database. RM are working on a fix.

CC4UPD166 will update the database to PostgreSQL 9.3.5. It's not been released yet but says it's in field trial. Is that newer than the version you have?

I'm now confused!

Just building two VMs using new Build Template for Win7 Enterprise, because it lets you put your KMS Client key into the build (we got problems with the Mac key not activating, so we're having to use VAMT to activate against our KMS) - and lo and behold at the end of the build it is installing 106 WSUS updates!

I wonder if WSUS has stopped serving updates to non-activated PCs, either during the RM build, or at any time.

Is that the same build template that wasn't installing updates as part of the build, or were your technicians using a different build template?

We've built machines these holidays are on 4.5. I've noticed some which have installed the updates as part of the build and others that haven't - everything has been built as Windows 7 Pro. It's a bit strange and not consistent.
