Road Rager gets his just desserts

So my local Cycle Campaign group posted this up on their facebook page yesterday lunchtime and overnight the video has gone viral!

 

It happened in my home town so I know the area well and would like to say that not all Reading's motorists are as obtuse as this chap. Watch right to the end!

 

I've met the cyclist in real life and been following his Youtube channel for a long time. He had another video that went partially viral when a Tesco lorry wiped out the fascia of a local shopping mall trying to do a u-turn. I'm very happy for the success he's having and hopefully it'll help open some motorists' eyes a little bit.

Iv just watched his videos... Fair enough some of the drivers are being Stupid and this one particularly is a ****** but I don't agree with the way he cycles after them and provokes them! Almost like he's looking for a fight!

The ending is brilliant, although as some of the comments on YouTube and the road.cc article below point out, the cyclist shouldn't have chased after the driver and provoked him. That's asking for trouble.

The cyclist provoked the driver. The fact that the driver goes 'you're really p*****g me off and the cyclist goes... I know I am' says it all really.

That cyclist provoked that I felt watching it as he seemed to follow him, I also wouldn't fancy cycling at all in some of the bigger cities, its too dangerous

Cameras on cycle helmets are a great idea, there's a lot of hate aimed at cyclists and a lot of muppet drivers. That was certainly one of them, he was too close and the cyclist was perfectly right to be riding where he was. Following him like that was nothing more than an act of intimidation though and instantly made him as bad as the driver.

not to mention the cyclist seemed to be as oblivious to pedestrians as he nearly ran down a few of them. its also hard to tell how close the car was as camera lenses fov isnt the same as irl and the cyclist could of moved into the parking bays it does look to me like hes out to trap drivers

I think its a sad sign that we nowadays are going the way of having to rely on the silent witness of CCTV for everything too, even car journeys are going that way.

Another cyclist with a camera going out to look for confrontation. Seems to be becoming a popular hobby. Why not just ride defensively, and mind your own business, like the majority of other road users do.

The cyclist did provoke him and he shouldn't have in my book. Though the chap didn't have to react the way he did, getting out of the car, threatening him, swearing. The best thing the driver could have done was ignored him and reported the cyclist if he felt threatened or intimidated by the cyclist.

 

Both parties where in the wrong but I wouldn't go as far to say the cyclist was just as bad as the driver. The driver didn't have to react the way that he did and made himself look like an idiot because of it. Some good entertainment though.

I completely agree.

 

If a cyclist was following me like that I would be prepared to be very defensive and aggressive (likewise if it was a driver). I wouldn't however be prepared to attempt to assault the cyclist/driver and he did get a bit of justice by falling face first. Also the fact that the car came as close to clipping him as the cyclist was to clipping the pedestrian. It only takes one bad clip to fall head first at a bit of speed for the cyclist to be seriously injured by the car but again likewise for the cyclist clipping the pedestrian.

 

I've said this before it doesn't matter if you drive a car, van, bus, ride a motorbike or a cycle - you can still be a "jerk". I've had plenty of cyclists totally cut me up without following the highway code.

 

To me this cyclist is a bit of a high horse attitude - almost as bad as some BMW drivers I see.

 

As for the camera though, I am all for people using them. I am even thinking of getting one my self.

The driver could have been considerably more...elegant in getting one over the cyclist during the confrontation. Not really any excuse for his behaviour and screaming abuse and trying to physically assault him is very uncalled for.

 

However, the cyclist is out picking a fight. He shouldn't have chased the motorist and shouldn't have kept pushing and pushing until he snapped so he can reap that sweet sweet YouTube traffic and Reddit karma (I saw it posted there too). I've cycled through London, yes it's scary and I felt nothing short of exposed and vulnerable but going off on one at drivers doesn't solve anything. As TFL have said in their adverts, the moment is gone; let it pass and share the road.

As a cyclist, I wish this hadn't gone viral. As bad as the driver is, the cyclist is completely out of order. The way he acts in this video (I've not seen his others) is damaging to the image of all sensible cyclists/road users out there.

You get idiots in all walks of life, the video just shows what happens when 2 of them meet! (To be honest the same applies to most of the dashcam/helmetcam videos on YouTube!)

So what we want is a video where having just shaved past a cyclist, Mr Motorist stops, gets out the car, storms up to the cyclist and the conversation goes something like :

 

Motorist : "I say, I'm terribly sorry, I simply didn't give you enough room, I can hardly begin to say how sorry I am".

Cyclist : "Not your fault at all old boy, I think I was wobbling a little there and that must have been terribly irksome for you"

Motorist : "Don't be silly, all the result of my own inattention, do let me send you a nice crate of Château La Croix de Marbuzet Saint-Estèphe, the 2011 is simply divine".

Cyclist : "Well, I say that is terribly kind but I couldn't possibly inconvenience you any further other than to thank you for a valuable lesson which may one day save my life".

Police in London are asking the public to help identify a man who shoved a female cyclist into oncoming traffic in east London.

 

The assault, which happened on Sidney Street, off Whitechapel Road, was captured on the cyclist's headcam.

 

In the video a female cyclist in her early 40s is seen turning a corner onto Sydney Street as a man crossing the junction approaches from her right.

It does and I think it only exacerbates the situation, someone in one camp reads or watches a video and then something similar happens to them out on the roads, they then feel fully justified to unleash all of their anger frustration on the poor sole who happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.

 

I'm a cyclist, I don't commute by bike but do ride on the roads often, it's clear to see as both a driver and a cyclist that people from both sides are at fault, there isn't a right side and a wrong side, each situation is different. I think what can be said with certainty is that the general public need better education on road use, particularly sharing the road with all road users.

 

I'm a relatively new driver and what has surprised me is the general impatience of many drivers, obviously the majority are sensible but you get some really dangerous and impatient drivers, I think it is these people who often end up in confrontations with cyclists as they are easier to blame, bully and unleash frustrations on than a car with its windows closed/able to drive away.
