Good morning everyone,

Please excuse me if anything sounds a bit noobish, switching is a new area for me. We are a secondary school running HP ProCurve 2650 managed switches, and we are thinking about replacing these switches with ubiquiti's new line of switches. The only thing I am not sure on is whether our existing 1Gb SFP modules in the ProCurves will work in the UniFi switches, or whether i need to buy different SFPs that work in the new switches? The SFPs we have now are HP J4858B. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Kindest Regards

The ubiquiti switches appear to have slots for SFP and SFP+ modules so they should work just fine with HP they detect non HP modules and refuse to work with grey market ones.

what's your reasons for moving away from HP?

This is only true for HP Procurve switches, models from the Comware range e.g.1920, 5130 and the core 5800, 5900 etc etc will accept 3rd-party SFP and SFP+ no problem.
