So Friday my SSD drive fails, not the end of the world as data is on another drive and my NAS. Few things lost as the backup had failed in copying these (due to a error on drive), this was when I noticed the drive was failing, restarted the PC and that was it.

Anyone any experience of SSD's failing and data been recoverable? Only want 2 folders if possible from my desktop if anyone knows if SSD's can be revived?

Spinrite is a great HDD recovery and maintenance tool. I think if you run it on a level 2, it hopefully will recover your SSD.

It's not free but it's a great tool to have in the toolbox.I've recovered a couple of drives with it in the past. I also run it on all of the computers in school as a maintenance task.

If you connect the drive to a working PC (either another PC, or the original one after you've replaced it) does it connect at all even if it won't boot from it?

Ive used a tool several times (which I'll have to check name of cos there's two similar ones) but it needs the drive to be mounted ok first.

Which SSD do you have?

Anyone any experience of SSD's failing and data been recoverable?

I've only ever had one SSD fail (a 64GB Crucial M4) and that was completely dead and unrecognizable by any computer it was connected to. The data that was on it didn't matter so I didn't waste any time trying to revive it.

I've had three Sandisk SSDs fail on me, and in all those instances, the drive was completely dead.

Similar experience, PC was working fine one day, turn it on next day and nothing.

No detection in BIOS or anything. So no recovery possible.

Only had Crucial M4 64GBs fail on me, three or so out of the hundreds we have so not bad. They were also absolutely dead connected to any PC, in fact the PCs wouldn't even POST with them connected.

Is yours recognised from another machine?

My OCZ SSD crashed few days ago. Was working on PC, walked away and returned half hour later with the bios screen saying no boot device. Restarted and been find every day since, so might be on it's way out. - Been in use about 3 years.

It was an OCZ Vertex Plus+ 120GB.

Will have a look at them bits later in the week when I have a bit of time. Not sure even if its powering up from the quick look I had the other day. Just a bit peeved 2 of my folders hadn't backed up and then I over wrote one too :(

In that case you are almost certainly out of luck.

OCZ SSDs from before Toshiba bought the company had unbelievably high failure rates...

Even if you do get it working I wouldn't trust it with my data. You would be better off buying a new SSD from Intel or Samsung.
