Thanks for the responses. Our new SAN (NetApp) does it's own deduplication, so is it worth upgrading our file server to 2012 R2 and turning it on there too or not?

Took over and the people before were so nice there are no storage restrictions, so far noone has abused this and max user area is like 8gb for a staff member, but with Office365 and OneDrive might bring in a quota limit to encourage them to save to their OneDrive area instead of locally.

year 7 gets 1GB

year 8-11 get 5GB

year 12-13 get 10GB as well as shred department drives...

They all still moan they don't have enough though.

2GB for Staff and 150MB for students seems to be fine for us. With 600 staff and 5,000 students.

Most staff can cope with that plus students have Onedrive.

1gb for students (1200 of them)

unlimited for staff, though as has been said in the thread i do chase those who unfairly use more. (we dont need to be storing all their holiday photos / videos)

Students are never the problem, staff thinking they have the right to store 10 years worth of personal documents, cause the issue....

Had a student at one place have 7GB in his user area when we decided to implement quota's, this consisted of Pirated games and Videos. Needless to say it disappeared off the server pretty quick.
