The only way I have found is to setup a rule in Exchange, checking the Body and Subject of emails for words. However I have to enter every word individually - is there anyway to upload a list of banned words? Thanks!

Petrosa Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 Thanks RichCowell - that's kind of what I have done. When I select "Apply this rule if... The subject or body includes..." it only allows me to enter one word at a time. Did you manage to upload a standard banned word list?
RichCowell Posted July 10, 2015 Posted July 10, 2015 I've just got my own in atm, but need to add a lot more to it... You should be able to add as many as you want, enter it in the text box, click the plus and it just adds to the top of the list below it...

Does anyone know if PowerShell can be used to edit rules in this way quicker?

These guys are talking about it but not actually said if they have got it to work. (exchange 2013 - Office 365 - what is in the "Sensitive Word List" for spam filtering? - Server Fault)
RichCowell Posted July 13, 2015 Posted July 13, 2015 Not sure I knew about that, but not sure that'd be suitable for what @Petrosa meant (IIUC) as it would just flag them as spam rather than blocking entirely or reporting them to relevant people...

GeekyPete Posted July 15, 2015 Posted July 15, 2015 Yes, build your own lists or find someone with the time to export theirs as a starting point. Also divide the list up. I have 27 rules A-Z and Numeric. If you get a bounce back it can be hard to track down the offending word. The NDR gives the name of the rule that failed, if you only have one rule it's not very helpful. I had one recently where it was bouncing mail because of the L rule. I finally tracked down to someone mis-spelling Middlesbrough. They put an extra o in so it read Middlesborough. This gave an unfortunate five letter word starting with the L. I would NEVER have tracked that down if I only had one word list with thousands of words in it.

I know there are some really great tools that can contextually pick up the things but can any of them hook in to Office 365? desktop clients wing work as most of our email goes from iPads.
MrFrostmaul Posted July 18, 2015 Posted July 18, 2015 We have banned words rule which are swearing etc which rejects the email with the reason why and also have a suspicious words rule which we are BCC'd onto that email chain for safeguarding.

Our O365 was set up for us and the company built the banned word list which we had to sign a copywriter disclaimer fore before it was made live. I'm wondering if the word list from Impero could be used? Do you know how to view the Impero list?

We can now cover this off in school by using products such as Impero however this does not work when they are at home accessing OWA. Regards Matt
