abillybob Posted July 9, 2015 Posted July 9, 2015 Hey Guys, So I have a mandatory profile setup for the kids although when they go to things like office 2013 it greets the with 1001 messages about automatic updates and 'Welcomes them to Office 2013' I want it so that the profile has already been through this setup and this no longer bothers them. Is there an easy way to load this profile back up, make some changes and then re-deploy the new version? Thanks abillybob

You can also edit the registry hive by loading it in Regedit, clicking on HKEY_USERS, then File-->Load Hive and select your .man or .dat hive. Handy to tweak some settings easily, and put in little reg fixes that you might like to roll out to users.

I'll give it a go but I am quite new to Mandatory Profiles and stuffs so I had to get help from another chap. The thing that confuses me is when @fairm010 said just copy over the default... I went for the 32bit version... Though I'm on a 64bit server yet the Office 2013 version we use is 64bit so wasn't really sure on which one to use? We are moving also to 64bit Office over the summer!

What he said. Though I've always found it odd that they produce Office x64 and then discourage its use! Only on 2010 because I didn't fancy the complaints that people couldn't find things. If you don't use any Office add-ins or they are already compatible with 64-bit Office then you don't have to worry too much. It has been five years since Microsoft released a 64-bit edition of Office (Office 2010). I think developers have had enough time to update their add-ins so that they are compatible. abillybob Posted July 10, 2015 Author Posted July 10, 2015 Thanks for the helpful guidance guys but yeah I read into this and apparently it's only due to Office add-ins (which we don't use any) so I thought why not if it gives Office slightly better performance. The Admin machines are staying on 32bit though. Can anyone explain to me in a noobish way how to install new administrative templates to 2008 R2 GP? I have the file now @localzuk but can't for the life of me figure out how to get it on GP? Thanks in advance

If you don't have a central store, create one! Using the local store is a pain, as it's not replicated between DCs. 2

I had a look at all that but can't make sense of it! I tried looking for the templates I think you said where in Program Files (x86) - Microsoft Group Policy etc but I don't have the Microsoft Group Policy folder on my domain controller!? I tried to also follow this video which told me to effectively take the PolicyDefinitions folder from C: - Windows and copy that to C: - Windows - SYSVOL - sysvol but I don't have the SYSVOL folder only the policy definitions. Can I just use the secondary controller to host the central store!? Gaaa, so confusing!

ataylor Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 (edited) For me I just the paste the admx files into \\FQDN\SYSVOL\FQDN\Policies\PolicyDefinitions So I would first download Download Office 2013 Administrative Template files (ADMX/ADML) and Office Customization Tool from Official Microsoft Download Center Extract the policy files to my desktop, go into the admx folder, copy all of the admx files + the en-us folder Then go to \\FQDN\SYSVOL\FQDN\Policies\PolicyDefinitions and paste! 3s-gtech Posted October 6, 2015 Posted October 6, 2015 It's just a case of making the new folders in the right places. You can grab the existing templates from C:\Windows\PolicyDefinitions and copy them across, but it's better to get the newest set online, exactly as described above.
abillybob Posted October 6, 2015 Author Posted October 6, 2015 Thanks guys all done! Finally so happy and got Office 2013 working just the way I want it. It's quite nice as well as the Office 2013 32bit admx files work well with Office 2013 64bit!!!!
