Techdw Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 Hi, I am about to re-image all my PCs in the school and wanted to know if it is a good idea to loads Solus and Sims onto the base image or will it cause an issue with things like ID's Thanks
FN-GM Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 If its Solus 3 it will cause all sorts of issues as you will have duplicate GUID's. My advise is don't.
ITGURU Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Another reason NOT to use SOLUS 3 - with solus 2 SIMS can be installed into the image.
Atomic_Zombie Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Another reason NOT to use SOLUS 3 - with solus 2 SIMS can be installed into the image. SIMS CAN be installed onto the image, just not the solus3 agent.
sted Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 could you put a run once script in the image that installs it at first boot? that way pcs get it without intervention but its not part of the image so should get a unique guid 1
matt40k Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Another reason NOT to use SOLUS 3 - with solus 2 SIMS can be installed into the image. SIMS updates at least 3 times a year, I'd rather not have to update the image 3 times a year or give users elevated rights. Still I don't know why you'd want include software in an image, surely folks are just installing the OS and drivers these days then deploying software. Haven't heard of folks cloning an image like that since the days of Windows XP.
round2it Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 Do not install solus 3 client on the machine you will be in a world of pain then next time you upgrade. Solus 3 works perfectly fine once you have imaged you pcs.
localzuk Posted July 7, 2015 Posted July 7, 2015 We have our standard build for laptops, and after an image we just click the button in SOLUS3 and it deploys to the laptop. Sure, it'd be nice to be able to include the SOLUS3 agent in the task sequence but it is hardly a huge amount of extra work to click a couple of buttons in SOLUS3 - it isn't like we're imaging machines every day that need SIMS.
