Depending on the model of the UPS, I've got standard Yusara batteries that go in alarms, and had them from RS and other places that sell those little sealed batteries.

You need to ensure that you choose batteries designed to be trickle charged for ever, and then deep discharge over a relatively short period without dying. Alarm batteries are designed to hold the system working for a long-ish period, and t retain the ability to ring if needed. Not really the same thing.

Another vote for MDS from me.

When I say alarm batteries they were identical spec, design etc to the ones I took out of the UPS, I was meerly using it as a description of what and where to look, sorry for the confusion

APC make the UPS's

CSB Make the batteries that go in the UPS's.

If you buy an APC battery you will get a CSB battery but with a return and disposal label to ship the old ones back FOC.

Buy a non APC and you will probably need to arrange you own disposal.

Thus, cost of cheaper battery + cost of disposal (Eg. Trip to Local Dump) = APC Price. There's very little in it.
