kidpressingbuttons Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 We have recently bought two new servers that have been set up with esxi 6.0. My current servers run 4.1 and we will need to migrate some of the servers over to the new boxes, what would be the best way to go about this? I have tried adding the hosts to the 6.0 vcentre but it says that is does not support esxi version 4.1.0.
pantscat Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 What version of vcentre are you running for the 4.1 hosts? The upgrade path is a bit tricky.
john Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Staged Upgrade: 4.1 --> 5.x --> 6 Agree wtih that path and also 6 is very new, we have delayed our migration due to many issues, like Windows 8 its a bit unpolished and needs a first service pack in our opinion so far...
Chuckster Posted July 6, 2015 Posted July 6, 2015 I was on ESXi 4.1 and decided to upgrade to 5.5 last summer; skipping 5.1 altogether. Using Trilead VM Explorer I replicated our VMs to the new host. All VMs are stored locally on each host as we do not have a SAN.
