LiamH Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Anyone else playing in the Beta? having a blast with this. It feels a lot more satisfying than World of Tanks did, Nothing quite like swinging your ship around to broadside someone. The graphics are really nice as well. World of Warships

halbaradkenafin Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 I played a bit of the closed beta on NA (thanks to humble bundle) but haven't played since the wipe, I need to petition and get my account moved over to EU to play with a few other people I know. I enjoyed what I played of it, mostly going round in low tier cruisers and destroyers and I think I'll likely stick with those classes when I start playing again.

Do the US battleships struggle? pushing down the US cruiser route at the moment but will jump in a game with my battleship if my cruiser is still in battle.
Geoff Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 Japanese Battleships are long range sniping where as the US battleships are more brawling at shorter ranges.
LincolnE Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I just found that (Well, certainly lower down the tech tree), the US battleships are just too slow and unwieldy to be properly used. You pretty much have to go straight down the middle and not stop to get anywhere near close enough to shoot anyone.
LiamH Posted June 30, 2015 Author Posted June 30, 2015 I'm currently enjoying the cruiser route, sailing around in the phoenix and enjoying its almost duel role with torps, although i know that will only last into the next tier. The St. Louis was a very fun ship, having 14 guns was amazing. The phoenix felt like a massive downgrade till I upgraded its hull and got used to using its speed to my advantage. Now I really like the phoenix, last night I took on 3 tier V battleships and won, i was lucky that they were stupid enough to chase me around a island after skirmishing with artillery for a while, torped 2 of them while they were coming around the island and torp / rammed the last. Looking forward to the Cleveland, that looks like a really nice ship with decent AA support.

bobsmith Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Played through the closed beta, lost interest in carriers after their major nerf (reduction/removal of torp bombers). Anyone remember the "aimbot" and how much fun it was getting smashed from 20km away from an unspotted BB? I've since gone back to World of Tanks - it's still got playability and is much faster paced that Ships is - working on getting the last tier 10 unlocked captainbob (KIA2) if you're playing on either EU server!
haci Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 Played a good few hours through closed beta, currently play about 3 hours a week, they fiddled with critical hits/fires and the balance between HE and AP shells and it's not in a good place right now imo.

Best ships so far are St Louis cruiser (though it is over powered) and Clemson destroyer. Best game with the Clemson was four ships sunk think luck more than judgement. Only part that frustrates me is lack of team work especially if im in a battleship no cruiser stay around to help defend against air and destroyers. Early battle ship have very little AA

Early battle ship have very little AA team work generally improves the higher tier you get but yeah it's the most annoying aspect of the game for me right now, most people don't seem to care about winning or losing just trying to cause as much damage as possible whilst remaining as far back on the map as possible. but to be fair even cruisers at low level don't have great AA with the exception of the ridiculously overpowered Cleveland aircraft are virtually unopposed by anything below tier 6

Early battle ship have very little AA I've been playing for about 4 days. I've not touched a DD yet. I kept getting ruined by St.Louis in the Chester so decided to make a beeline for that ship, after getting it I do agree its a bit OP but so good to use! Just got myself the Wyoming BB. Enjoying the BB's a lot. I do feel the same as you though, I always get left alone with no cruisers or DDs backing me up. If you have Steam DM your name I'll add you and we can division up if you like? Actually work together instead of treading alone!!
