FN-GM Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Hi The last few days the NETLOGON folder opens when an Administrator logs on. I have been putting a few basic scripts in recently they include: Bossmans script to clean profiles Copy shortcuts Delete shortcuts Map Network Drives I have gone and run each script to see if it could be that but they don't open the folder then. I also disabled every group policy concerned with the computer and the user account and the folder still comes up. It’s no big issue but it’s annoying. Its happening on Windows XP & Windows Server 2003 (No other OS on the domain) Any thoughts please? Cheers Zak
Ric_ Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Your profile has saved with the window open. Just close the window, log off (so that your profile saves), log on and it should be fine. I take it you have a roaming profile then (you could just delete that too )
FN-GM Posted December 30, 2007 Author Report Posted December 30, 2007 Hi I have tried on 3 accounts with admin rights. My account has a roaming profile The admin account is a mandatory profile The Administrator account has a local profile. It comes up on all 3. Z
Ric_ Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 Sounds like you might have something else opening it (perhaps a stray link in the startup folder?)
Ric_ Posted December 30, 2007 Report Posted December 30, 2007 try checking the contents of "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" for any shortcuts to NETLOGON
FN-GM Posted January 5, 2008 Author Report Posted January 5, 2008 ^^^BUMP^^^ Come on, some must know!
FN-GM Posted January 5, 2008 Author Report Posted January 5, 2008 Do i have disabled all the group policies that contain the scripts and other ones and it still does it.
FN-GM Posted January 5, 2008 Author Report Posted January 5, 2008 I didnt i will try though but i can see that group policies did apply.
hcrejazz Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Look in the active directory snap-in. Chances are you have a small little space right before the profile that's typed in. We had the same problem and that was the fix.
cookie_monster Posted March 7, 2008 Report Posted March 7, 2008 Have you moved one of the admin users into the default users container so you know no policy is applied (well almost none). Then delete the local profile and logon.
powdarrmonkey Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 Check the startup items in the affected profiles: On disk: %USERPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup In the registry: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
Michael Posted March 8, 2008 Report Posted March 8, 2008 A quick google and I found this hcrejazz's space theory could well be correct.

We had the same problem and that was the fix. Not that, i have tried on 3 admin accounts all have different types of profiles. Local Roaming Mandatory Have you moved one of the admin users into the default users container so you know no policy is applied (well almost none). Then delete the local profile and logon. I'm pretty sure i did, i will try again though. Thanks anyway but that isn't it
FN-GM Posted March 12, 2008 Author Report Posted March 12, 2008 anyone got anymore suggestions please? its driving me crazy! Thanks Z
cookie_monster Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 I'm pretty sure i did, i will try again though Did you? Are you using a default profile in the server netlogon share?
FN-GM Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 yes, i put it into the users container with no profile, deleted the old local one and i get the same thing. Thanks for your input.
cookie_monster Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 Are you using a default profile? Do the admin users have a roaming profile specified in the users tab?
FN-GM Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 I have tried with a default profile, roaming and mandatory. All the same though
cookie_monster Posted March 13, 2008 Report Posted March 13, 2008 So you have a default profile in the Netlogon folder on your DC servers? If you have i'm thinking that this could be the problem as windows will always pick this up even if you don't specify it in GPO or the users tab.
FN-GM Posted March 13, 2008 Author Report Posted March 13, 2008 sorry no the default user profile is on each machine locally. Sorry for the confusion.
