sted Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 as my 500gb xbox one is all but full(and i ideally dont want to hang a usb drive off my console it looks messy and my av setup looks messy enough) and i really like the look of the forza 6 1yb limited edition console does anyone know if i can just back up the contents of my existing console and just chuck all the games/patches/saves across to a new console without having to redownload everything (so put disk in and reinstall say halo mcc then download umpteen gbs of patches repeat till all games are across)
foofighterjim Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Ever though about uninstalling some of the old games you don't play anymore? If I recall Forza 5 takes up about 40GB. Definitely what I would do, you can always install again at a later date if you want to play them again.
ellsandell Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Could you use a external hard drive to copy the games to and then back onto the main hard drive on the new console?

ellsandell Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 no idea thats my plan a just not sure if it will work or not You can apparently take an external drive to any Xbox One and plug it in and play that games off it, so should work. Might have to be a USB 3.0 drive however.

Even with disk games they need installing to the hard drive so going non digital dosent really help just measn i need to put the disk in to authenticate (and most of my games are disk anyway as they are cheaper unfortunately. I could hide a drive round the back but i worry about getting airflow to it tbh. To some degree its more i want a shiny blue console with racing stripes and the 1tb is just my justifying it to myself lol
JJonas Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 no idea thats my plan a just not sure if it will work or not Yes it will. I have moved my games to my external drive.
X-13 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 apparently upgrading the existing drive means breaking seals that make your xbox show up as modified so you may be banned from live. Ouch... Forget that then. Even with disk games they need installing to the hard drive so going non digital dosent really help just measn i need to put the disk in to authenticate (and most of my games are disk anyway as they are cheaper unfortunately Same with PS4. Thankfully I don't have many PS4 games, so I haven't had to worry about space yet [even captures don't take massive amounts of space]... I liked the old days of just putting the disk in and playing. Updates and savedata don't take up much space. I could hide a drive round the back but i worry about getting airflow to it tbh. Pop it on top of the Xbone then. To some degree its more i want a shiny blue console with racing stripes and the 1tb is just my justifying it to myself lol I'm not helping you spend money. This is for your own good... or the good of your bank balance, anyway. If you can get a good deal for your current one, it may work out pretty decent. But you're still looking at paying more than you would for a massive external HDD.

3s-gtech Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 That's some fair geek heaven going on there. Should fit neatly on top of your XBox though by the looks of it.

The Forza 6 one wouldn't fit the noir theme you have there. You'd have to buy/paint everything to match it.

sted Posted June 25, 2015 Author Posted June 25, 2015 I will see what I can do... if its preview for xbox one ive looked at the currently available 360 games that work on the one and i own is a round number 0 lol
sted Posted June 26, 2015 Author Posted June 26, 2015 well ive bitten the bullet went into game and preordered it
sted Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 1TB SSD, job done? from what ive read if you open up an xbox one and take out the hard drive it flags it as modified and you run a high risk of getting banned from live. also its probably cheaper to buy a 1tb console than a 1tb ssd and im not upgrading a console with an ssd twice the size of the one in my laptop (and from benchmarks ive seen ssd in an xbox one isn't a massive amount faster)
