LaurenceStanley Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) Hi all I've been to a few none, education related meetups/coffee mornings in the past few months (Wordpress user groups etc). I was wondering if there are any ed tech specific meetups in the North at all? I'd love to meet some new people, share ideas and learn a few things! I find some conferences tend to be quite sales orientated so it's difficult to have a proper chat with people about new ideas etc. Would anybody be interested in a fairly regular meetup around Manchester area? Please let me know if this thread is meant to be elsewhere Thanks Laurence P.S Obviously it would have to involve copious amounts of coffee! Edited June 24, 2015 by LaurenceStanley
Achandler Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 There is nothing regular that I know about, which is a shame to be honest. I see our business manager, deputy heads, headteacher and even heads of department have time out of work to go to meetings like these but there is no equivalent for IT. There use to be one in our local council but even that has died off.

I may have gone in "all guns blazing" here but I have organised "NW Education Technology Meetup" next Wednesday 6pm at Takk Cafe in Manchester. Hopefully we can make this a regular occurrence and it will be a great opportunity to meet like-minded people, discuss ideas etc. Hope it's okay to post meetup events on here? LaurenceStanley Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 ANME Meeting 04 - 25 June Thanks for sharing! It seems as if this is just for network managers though?

LaurenceStanley Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 That sounds brilliant thanks, I'll keep an eye out!
RichCowell Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 (edited) Thanks @kearton & @timbo343 @LaurenceStanley The ANME is (hopefully) exactly what you're talking about... It's open to whoever responsible for the day to day management of ICT in schools... we've got 360+ members with nearly 100 different job titles, so definitely for more than "just" Network Managers... We've had 4 really successful meetings now, with members travelling as far as Cumbria, Yorkshire, and Cheshire... We'd love to welcome you as a member... it's all free, to join and attend... we've got a private forum here on EduGeek, and are always keen to hear ideas about how to develop the ANME, and new ways to introduce new members. We've got a member referral competition running at the moment too, with tablets up for grabs... feel free to put kearton & timbo343 in the referred box to be in with a chance of winning one, and them for winning the other... I'd be happy to chat more about it, but check out more info on our website with photos & agendas from previous meetings etc. too - Association of Network Managers in Education ANME If anyone's got any suggestions of new ways of promoting the ANME on here and elsewhere in the educational community I'd be really interested to hear them... Gibbo Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 Laurence, if you're in Macc am I right in thinking you're working at a school in Cheshire East? The CoSocius SIMS group meetings are a good place to meet fellow school techies and NMs. 1
john Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 There might be another Edugeek meet in Preston too as the May Half term one easnt scheduled this year. @Dos_Box and @ZeroHour would have to confirm this though. The Edugeek stuff will be later in the year and be a larger style event and we were looking a little futher south than Preston I think Manchester was the last location I heard but there will be something later in the year more info will come once ISTE is over and DB and ZH have had time to relax a little
LaurenceStanley Posted July 2, 2015 Author Posted July 2, 2015 Thank you I'm having a google of CoSocius SIMS group meetings now It sounds as if there is more going on than I first expected. I've been to a few really interesting meetups recently but none (so far!) regarding education. Hope to see you all at some of them in the near future!
