itssemi Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Dear all, I'm looking into doing a CCNA course, I want to do this course with proper training center in London. Anyone got any experiences ? Any advice would be great.
featured_spectre Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Honestly? I've done it twice, once in college 13 years ago, and more recently as part of a contract negotiation (well recent, I mean 2012). I'd advise not to do it unless you will definitely be using cisco kit as much of it is based around the CLI, which is not used outside of Cisco kit. It does give a good grounding in the fundamentals, but Comptia N+ will do that just as well.
Miscbrah Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Nope, because my advice would be self-paced training. Always seem to do better that way. I got the impostor syndrome thing going on HARD so I'd look around that classroom and everyone in my head would seem like Stephen Hawking and I'd be like Bart Simpson and I'd just not be able to focus. If I can crawl away into my dungeon and learn at my own speed and have a google here and there I'm much happier! EDIT - though, if someone up on current affairs can verify this, if you do the CCENT you still get ICND 1 which is half a CCNA (and can be used towards it.) That right?
Mark182 Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 I did my at Burnley College (I know not in London) Took me 2 years, took one course every 6 months up to 4 and then studied for another few months before doing my CCNA exam. I failed first time with 76% then re took a few weeks later and got 89%. I would say packet tracer this book and lessons at college will help. Make sure you take the time to learn sub netting. Use packet tracer as much as possible and just play around setting things up.

FN-GM Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 I got my CCENT last week past first time. But it was a really though exam! And that was ICND 1 not the combined exam. I did a 1 week course with QA Manchester, but they have London offices. In a few weeks I am doing the ICND 2 course and exam. In the meantime I am watching CBT nuggets.
Joanne Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Hahaha... I did mine at Burnley College @Mark182 did you have Chris? There were a handful of us in the NVQ class that got to do it and they really helped us on the exams... I did not deserve that certificate!!!! I believe he doesn't work there anymore....
Mark182 Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 @Joanne No, I had Phil T. I did the first ccna 1 in 2007 had 5 years off and did the rest 2013/14 and passed my full CCNA in Aug 14. I found the exam hard! I had 4 Sims in the one I passed.
itssemi Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 Anyone did training with NEOS IT Training Ltd ? FM-Gm - how much fees did you paid to QA? Many thanks for everyone's reply.
FN-GM Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 FM-Gm - how much fees did you paid to QA? About £2,800 for ICND 1 & 2
rich_tech Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) I am working towards mine at the moment under self study, its not super easy the theory side and quite dry, I have both of Wendell Odoms books, I am going to do the two seperate exams route for the CCENT and CCNA, I have been told by lots that the combined exam is extra horrible and I am in no super rush. The codes for the current ones are :- 100-101 - ICND1 200-101 - ICND2 Combined is :- 200-120 The old exams start with 640, so be careful if your buying materials as they could be the older ones and some stuff has changed. Local uni here offers it as their a Cisco academy, but its just over £1000 to do it in 6 months. Edited June 24, 2015 by rich_tech
itssemi Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 I could have learnt it myself if im honest. Can you please give me some advice how to learn by self? I have done MCSE so I have knowledge about TCP/IP etc. I was thinking to buy CCNA Routing & Switching Complete Bundle online training video and setup a lab to practice switching and routing.

Personally I would watch the CBT Nuggets videos combined with a book.
Davit2005 Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 You can do it via a college so it gives you access to the NetAcad etc. with hands on access to lab equipment depending on what they have at the college. Packet Tracer is very good learning tool and you can setup quite complex network labs i.e. DHCP servers, Layer 3 switches, ASA firewalls, Web servers, DNS etc.

For example the command Show Interface Status is missing.
DB91 Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Anyone did training with NEOS IT Training Ltd ? Yes few weeks ago I did a Group Policy course there, the trainer was very good. 1
Leeoakley Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 We don't run CCNA course on a public schedule I'm afraid. We can deliver the course(s) as a closed solution, but there would need to be 3 or 4 people to make it cost effective, or 6-10 to make it quite frankly cheap. There is a grant you can use against this training which helps. You could easily run this from a school/academy and invite others on the course. Hope that helps.
Bruce123 Posted June 25, 2015 Posted June 25, 2015 Dear all, I'm looking into doing a CCNA course, I want to do this course with proper training center in London. Anyone got any experiences ? Any advice would be great. I passed CCNA on Monday. It was quite hard (not unexpectedly so) and I got stuck on one question early on (a practical) for about 40 minutes, which didn't leave me much time for the other 30 questions. Normally, my exam strategy is to skip any difficult/slow questions, with the aim of coming back to them later if I have time, but you can't do that with the CCNA exam as there is no "back" button. I would say the course/exam is around 50% Cisco CLI and 50% generic networking (up to layer 4), so even if you don't plan to configure Cisco gear the other 50% is still useful as it gives you the fundamentals. Also, bear in mind that some manufacturers try to emulate the Cisco CLI closely (such as Allied Telesys), so you're not just restricted to Cisco (and some aren't far off such as 3Com). However, the course/exam doesn't really deal with anything above layer 4, so if your interest is dealing with and understanding what goes on above these layers, there might be more appropriate options. Thanks, Bruce.

itssemi Posted June 29, 2015 Author Posted June 29, 2015 Any one done CCNA course with Cisco Networking Academy in London?
RobD Posted June 29, 2015 Posted June 29, 2015 We dont use Cisco but I've found the course invaluable, most of the CLI commands are transferable to HP kit and its filled in some gaps I didn't realize I had. I'm doing self study via CBT nuggets but Global Knowledge have a London based center which is good: Cisco - Cisco CCNA Routing and Switching Boot Camp (CCNAX - Accelerated) (CCNABC) - globalknowledge.co.uk

Chris Miller was asked to hand in his resignation... Haha. All the rest are still there teaching, William Haddock doing the cisco i think. Phil T does HE stuff and is moving into database management for the college last i spoke to him a few years ago. All great guys. I did my CCNA whilst doing my BTEC. It was hard work doing it at the same time as a BTEC full time. Edited July 2, 2015 by Patrick
