Know someone who wants to watch films on his new phone, but spends a lot of time in Thailand in areas without internet/phone signal so he needs to be able to download them to his phone and watch offline. He's had a look at Amazon and Xbox (Windows phone). Anyone got any other good ones? Similarly he'd like some music and has been recommended Napster. Can anyone confirm that the £10/month actually allows you to download tracks for offline consumption?

(Article may have been out of date). Have to say that some of the movie prices are ridiculous. I'm not advocating piracy, but that - combined with how difficult it seems to be to find a decent or even "one stop shop" service - makes me slightly more sympathetic to those who do it because it's "easier".

Usually gets the movies themselves on DVD etc, series as well then rips them to one of those Western Digital drives you can make available online. He then downloads them onto his iPad, sure you need to actually buy the films/ series but it a totally legitimate way of watching stuff and if your not into the latest and greatest films/ series then you can get them pretty cheap. If they are travelling as in backpacking, then using a WD drive may also offer a location to backup photos too. My brother used his when we were in Japan, and a good job too because his phone broke half way through the holiday but he only lost a day or so of photos.

Google Play Movies are region restricted, so @LeMarchand's friend will probably find that when they get to Thailand the movie(s) that were downloaded in the UK will not play because they aren't licensed for playback in Thailand. They would also need an Android or Chrome OS device. Viewing requirements. You agree to watch each Video Content only within territories within which Google makes the relevant Video Content available for viewing. You may view Video Content when (1) online, with an internet connection and logged onto your Google account or (2) offline and viewing from a previously authorized device. LeMarchand Posted June 23, 2015 Author Posted June 23, 2015 (edited) Following some of the ideas from here has confirmed my already low opinion of the intellectual capacity of a high proportion of the populace. The amount of people whingeing that they can't use Android apps on Windows Phone! The best bit is when they then say that they'll just get an iPhone instead! @Achandler - that's the way I'd do it (or choose films with Ultraviolet), but we're talking somewhat who is severely "technologically challenged".
