I am really excited to see that they are finally doing it (not that you'd guess that I like the game!) after so many rumors and so much time. However, I hope that it is more of a sequel or a prequel than a remake. They will ruin what is widely regarded as their best ever game IMO.

I would like to see the original Squaresoft team on this though as the Enix games (again, IMO) aren't nearly as good in many regards.

Regardless of what happens, though, I will be buying this. I just hope it's worth the hype.

I was reading yesterday that the reason they're doing this now is because the same people that made the original wanted to be the ones to make the remake, and they were starting to question their own morality over how old they were getting and the likelihood of having to pass it off to a younger generation if they left it much longer.

You mean mortality?

I don't think having a different team work on the remake because you're old is a moral issue... :p

Not quite sure how I feel about remaking Final Fantasy 7. I have fond memories of playing 7,8 and 9 on the PlayStation1 and enjoyed 12 on the Playstation2 but in general I've found the last few felt kind of dull. I'm starting to feel the Final Fantasy formula is getting a bit stale.

I really want to see square changing things up a gear and bringing Final Fantasy into the modern age. I'm struggling to feel excited as I don't feel remaking 7 will deliver anything we haven't already seen. Hopefully with remaking 7 they'll get back to creating an open world you can explore as for me that was one of the main draws of FF7. With all the latest ones they've felt so linear and 'on-ralis' that I've struggled to enjoy them.

This is my hope too. I got l;ost on the world map a few times in the original and found all kinds of nice things as a result, not to mention leveling up a little more before getting to the next story-critical section. More of this please.

It is basically the biggest grind in the game. So this means you've never unleashed the might that is Knights of the Round then?

It costs an awful lot in greens to level your chocobos up stat wise, and then it takes ages to race each one up to S rank, but the prizes are usually worth it once you get that far :)

I'd put aside a few days though!

Nope, no knights of the round, though my Uncle did it many moons ago when i was about 9.... I have 6 weeks off in the summer.....

Haha yes, this! We're moving at the moment so my gaming time is just the odd hour here and there. Add to this the fact my memory is awful (as I said earlier, despite having played through FFVII about 10 times, I still forget bits between play thoughs; keeps it fun at least!) and I find myself lost on the world map a lot. The great thing about FFVII is that no matter where you turn up, there's almost always something to do. There are whole story lines you can completely bypass, either on purpose or just by missing them. It's probably why it was such a huge deal at the time; it's certainly the first game I ever remember playing that felt like I was truly in an open world.

It is basically the biggest grind in the game.

It is pretty time consuming to get it done, especially racing against that damn black chocobo rider (Joe?) where the only way to beat him sometimes is to make him push you along and try to stop him slipping by you.

The other big grind in the game is Omnislash, which a friend decided to try to get on disc 1 and succeeded in using it against Demon's Gate in the Temple of the Ancients. That was pretty awesome to see that happen.

Yeah Joe on Teiho or something like that. Providing your Chocobo has the stamina though you can usually break away at the start and cruise after 2/3 of the distance. The other main problem is when you're trying to breed one blue and one green and your mating pair keep producing birds of the same colour! Takes forver to get another go at it. And then there's getting the damn Carob nuts, that's time consuming too.

I never pushed for Omnislash on Disc 1, never had the patience for the Battle Arena. Meteorain was more than enough to see of most of the early bosses :D

Same, Meteorain on Rufus was as far as I went while on an attempt to hit level 30 before leaving midgar, got to about 24 before I got bored of grinding.

we can't have these upgraded, beautiful 3D models of Cloud and Barrett, still lining up in a row, jumping forward to attack an enemy, then jumping back to wait for their next turn. That would be bizarre. Of course there will likely be changes there.

This worries me...

I like turn based combat, it's one of the first things I look for in a JRPG.

Well, only time will tell I suppose.

Erm don't they need to line up? Otherwise how will rows and the Switch command work? Ranged at back, melee at front.

It suggests an action RPG style combat system to me. That might be the wrong terminology, but I mean similar to FFXII:

I really hate that...

So my friends have started thinking up ideas for who would be the best voice actors if it happens to have voices, some good ones here....

Gorden Ramsey as Cid

Stephen Amell as Cloud

Nathan Fillion as Vincent Valentine

Megan Fox as Tifa

Mila Kunis as Yufie

Scott McNeil as Red XIII

Mark Hamill as Sephiroth

I think (hope) some of them were joking...i mean if mila kunis voiced a character that characters name would definitely end up as "meg"
