Would love to get rid of Inventry for something like this. The big thing for us is the SIMS write back.

You know InVentry has SIMS write back? We don't use it for students so I don't use it personally, but I know it's had it for years...

I know. What I am saying is I would love to get rid of Inventry, but the SIMS write back will be stopping us doing that.

Aah right - what's making you want to find something else? Just out of interest - my school was one of their first customers, though we've looked at a few others over the years, just to compare for pricing etc. and it's still leading with features by a long shot... (feel free to email so we don't hijack this thread)

It is unreliable, version 4 is worse!

The support is poor, struggle to answer the phones and take ages to get back to you.

Need Windows to run the client, this day in age it should be in the browser based.

No integration with other identity providers such as LDAP.

Expensive for what you get.

Ever ask something then wish you hadn't? lol... I've got to say I've not experienced any issues with support, and very few issues generally since we got it... I agree the browser based console would be easier, and I think LDAP is either here now or coming soon...

Similar experience. We had Inventry installled this year on version 3. It couldn't handle our SIMS setup very well so they upgraded us to version 4 in the Easter holidays. It does seem to work better now but still missing a few things.

I deliberately made mine with the least amount of complications, some systems just have features you just don't need and pay a lot for. At the end of the day all you want is a system that can sign people in and out and some basic back end stuff (Fire lists etc.)

I decided on non web based as I can never make anything look nice :) VB.net is just a lot quicker to put something together and I just don't have the motivation to learn a new language

Well here's mine for what it is, take as you like - the codes not great, barely any error trapping but it kinda works.

You'll need to change the LDAP strings, and add your own database instance. I've included the necessary SQL stuff and there is no admin panel yet as I've not had a heap of time to work on it. The label stuff is commented out as it won't build without the Brother SDK and there's the start of the RFID stuff in there which I've not put much time in.

Do with it as you will, make your own changes - there's space in the main page for your school logo

I want to play in this arena myself and would love to get a copy of your source, don't suppose you could reload it please?

Cheers

There you go, I think it should work now

Here's the version I have in production - it's been running without any issues for 18 months. I didn't go with barcode scanning or card scanning in the end. Visitors just have a 5 digit code they sign out with

I use 15" asus touchscreens, Intel compute sticks and a brother label printer so the hardware cost is really low

Hopefully it's useful for someone or at least a start

Sorry about the rubbish code in advance
