UniFi AP mixed with D-Link AP?

Hello,

 

Sorry if this has been asked before but can't seem to find anything relating to this.

 

We have 6 x D-Link DWL-3200AP and certain (expanded) areas of the school are now struggling with connecting to Wifi.

 

Would I be able to remove one of the D-Link AP and replace it with a UniFi AP and then configure it with same SSID etc as the D-Links etc or is it not as simple as that?

 

Thinking about buying 3 x UniFi AP to start with to replace the older D-Links and just wondering if mixed AP hardware would cause any foreseeable issues?

It will be better once all replaced, but have done a slow replacement over time, matching the SSID and it's worked fine.

I do have this, I replaced all my dwl-3200aps except one and they all work together fine. You just can't manage the dlink from the unify controller (durr)

 

Warning: This is just a pointer, but if you are using wpa (not wpa2) on the dlinks you will have an issue with laptops that are joined to the network via the unify APs (as they will be wpa2) Windows doesn't mind going up but wont go down. Example: you joined a laptop to a dlink using wpa it will connect to the wpa2 aps with no issues, but if you joined via Unify on wpa2 it won't connect to the dlink wpa ap. if they're both wpa2 no problem.

chazzy2501 - thanks for the tip - the D-Links are indeed setup as wpa so I'll change these to wpa2 once I've got the UniFi APs in.

I'd also buy Pro points if you can afford them. Even maybe AC.
