Any Experience with IBS or PBS printing?

Afternoon

 

we are looking at getting in a managed print service, IBS and PBS have come in cheapest, with Cannon and Konica being a little more pricey, I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with either IBS or PBS and could let me know about either company, good or bad. Our business manager is thinking of paying the extra and going with the big boys, but we could get a pretty decent saving if either of them are any good.

We are with Konica for our 2 photocopiers and they have been exceptionally good. When we have had major faults engineers have normally been out within hours to sort them. New toner supplies are delivered quickly (normally next day) and the cost is pretty good in comparison (also the kit is pretty reliable, we have konica printers throughout and have very few issues). Assuming its the same team that deal with the printers as the photocopiers I would definitely recommend them.

What software management system have these guys put in place? No doubt your business manager will be wanting to run alsorts of reports off.

 

I would get an understanding of what your business manager wants to see in terms of data/cost of jobs etc. That was one of the criteria that we looked at when setting up our system.

 

What devices are the cheaper companies using?

We are running Papercut NG currently, but with the new printers we will be upgrading to Papercut MF (unless we end up with cannon then it will be uniflow) Both these systems can run reports for pretty much anything required! so that isn't to much of a problem. It is basically down now to - do we pay a little more for a manufacturer, who should have the resource to support us if something went wrong, or a smaller company that is a little cheaper, but may not have the resources or the support of the big boys.

One of them has suggested Konica and the othera Sharp / Samsung mix, sharp for the MFP's and samsung for the smaller desktops.

We were going to go with Konica but I had a bad gut feeling about it and hoped someone had come in cheaper - which they did. We have got Toshiba MFDs and Kyocera desktop printers which are hopefully to be increased in September. We too were/still using Papercut NG and wanted to move upto Papercut MF just because a. we were used to it b. its so god dam flexible with anything you throw at it. One of the Konica reps said to us that they can support Papercut however there may come a situation where Konica may blame Papercut and Papercut may blame the hardware. This is something I didn't want to happen - they had suggested using DocuPro.

 

Don't get me wrong though, the Konica build quality and print quality is very good. It was only after about 4 years some of the MFDs started to fail.

We've used IBS for just over a year now, extremely happy with them. Onsite the same day, usually the afternoon if an issue is raised in the morning. Knowledgeable about Papercut MF and helped us set that up too. Really painless company that has dealt with everything we've thrown at them (Two staff copiers, Two reprographic copiers). We had Konica at my old site using their own Docupro software, they were pretty good especially with larger machines and usually were out quickly, we had a couple of problematic desktop printers that they insisted on replacing virtually every part for before they would give us a replacement which was annoying however.
