We are running Papercut NG currently, but with the new printers we will be upgrading to Papercut MF (unless we end up with cannon then it will be uniflow) Both these systems can run reports for pretty much anything required! so that isn't to much of a problem. It is basically down now to - do we pay a little more for a manufacturer, who should have the resource to support us if something went wrong, or a smaller company that is a little cheaper, but may not have the resources or the support of the big boys. edit - (didn't read the last part of the post!) One of them has suggested Konica and the othera Sharp / Samsung mix, sharp for the MFP's and samsung for the smaller desktops.

Afternoon we are looking at getting in a managed print service, IBS and PBS have come in cheapest, with Cannon and Konica being a little more pricey, I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience with either IBS or PBS and could let me know about either company, good or bad. Our business manager is thinking of paying the extra and going with the big boys, but we could get a pretty decent saving if either of them are any good. thanks

Really weird problem with my documents freezing for a few students
Simon_Gibbs replied to Simon_Gibbs's topic in Windows
A little premature it would seem, fixed one room, but the same thing hasn't worked on the other two, back to the hunting for an answer.. -

So any ideas, because I'm really struggling now to find an answer to it, and it seems to be affecting more and more of our students, help would be really really appreciated! -

There are a few temp files in the users areas that have the trouble, but first thing I do is clear them out, doesn't fix it, and yup, all home areas are redirected. -

Nope, no files with that extension. I don't think its the number of files now, which was kinda one of the things I was suspecting, because I'd tried everything else I could think of! -

We use mandatory profiles, there is also a script that runs every time to clear off any profile bits that are left on the pc as well on shutdown, so yup, tried that too -

Nothing in event log, when it first started there was something coming up about webfldrxp.exe, so I had a hunt round, it is for publishing folders on the web, which I didn't want the kids doing anyway, so got rid of that, but that didn't solve it. and We've got AB tutor, and securus on the machines. -
I'm getting this really weird problem with a few students, in two of our computer rooms straight after logging in, they go to my documents and explorer seems to crash, all they can do is ctrl alt del and log out, nothing else. I've tried seeing if there was a corrupt file by going through and putting documents back in one at a time into a users area, seeing which one caused it to happen, but it would seem rather then one corrupt file, its once too many are put in the folder. As far as I know there is no limit for how many files can go in a folder, defiantly not the 30 - 40 that at the very highest level some of these kids have in them. So I'm getting pretty stumped by this, why would it lock up explorer? has anyone else had anything similar.

after removing Wsus getting Error ID421 every 15 mins
Simon_Gibbs replied to Simon_Gibbs's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
Not to sound a dull end, I had seen that, just didn't really know what to make of it, what does susanne mean by "You now need to remove the R2 piece. As it hooks into WSUS." I'd need to reinstall R2? -
Hi Guys I decided to move wsus a while ago onto another server, and since then we've been getting our application log spammed with errors: Event Type: Error Event Source: Windows Server Update Services Event Category: Update Services Service Event ID: 421 Date: 16/03/2010 Time: 08:48:01 User: N/A Computer: GCS-SRV-003 Description: Connection to database failed. Reason=SQL Server does not exist or access denied.. Connection string: Net=dbnmpntw;Data Source=\\.\pipe\MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE\sql\query;;Initial Catalog=SUSDB;Connection Timeout=60;Application Name=WSUS SQL Connection;Trusted_Connection=Yes;Pooling='true'; Max Pool Size = 100 For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. Now I've removed wsus from this server, even tried removing the old sql database to shut it up, I've been trawling the web on and off for a while trying to find an answer to it when we get some quite time, but alas, I can't find anything that has solved it yet. So short of reinstalling the server, which as far as I can see now is the only way to get rid of this, how can I clear this error? its running on server 2003 r2.

Hi Guys I'm looking at stopping the kids changing the safe search options on google image search. Up till recently blocking the preferences tab has worked, but now google have put in a handy drop down box to let the kids change it while not going to the preferences at all! I found a reply from google on a thread here Appending text to URLs thru proxy? (Force Google safesearch) - NOVELL FORUMS Which says Which is exactly what I want to do, but.. what I don't know is how to get ISA to always append "&safe=strict" at the end of google searches. Does anyone here have any idea?

Software restriction policy, I had it up, all tested, working a treat, very pleased with myself, with a mix of hash rules and software restrictions, I thought I had finally managed to get games off. But alas! I was wrong. Anyone know why this would happen. The kid copy's a game into the home area, and it will not run, says its been blocked by a policy, he copies it into a new folder he created, and it still won't run, then he creates another folder inside the new one, and copies the game in, still won't run, now the strange bit.. he makes another new folder inside the last, copies the game in, and it works fine, so folder would look like.. H:\1\2\3\game.exe any ideas? the software restriction is set to h:\ disallowed with exe's in the designated file types.

basically if its not on Dave or Discovery, then its rubbish

It was pretty good, but end of the day, it was just same old action sci fi, there weren't really any plot twists or that much to make you think. It was good, but could of done with being a bit more intelligent if you ask me. And the nero badguy was a bit of a rubbish baddy.

Setting up Sims for use with fronter, and one of the bits it wants me to do is set up a sechdule task and put the following in the run field 8. In the Run field, enter the following parameters to the end of the existing text: /S /D /U /P For example: C:\IMS\VLEExport\VLEExport.exe /S WORKSTATION\SIMS /D SIMS /U username /P password NOTE: Spaces must be entered before the switch parameters, e.g. space/S. now that reads that it wants me to put my sims user and password in there, into what is basically a plain text format, that people with a little jiggery pokery could open. I'm reluctant to do this! I'm just wondering what others have done to get it working, have you just done as asked?

it reminds me of what one of colleges used to call his 2 juniors, the rats, but someone over heard and decided it was offensive, so one evening down the pub, he challenged us to come up with an acronym, so the Run Around Technical Service was born!

I know this is a bit of a sweeping generalisation, and I've got no real idea at all of the figures. But from the guys I know, (From Plan to Progress, go buy their album off play.com) personally, they are in it for the fun, the experience and getting the music heard, not for mega bucks, they are realistic about it, as I think most people who do music professionally are. It only seems to be the ones that have already made the mega bucks (metallica / napster argument springs to mind) that are clamouring for more money, plus the publishers who seem to care that much. Why not have all the publishes and their middle management ilk take a pay cut, to pay the musicians more? If they won't why should google/youtube take one?
-
To be honest, reading it from google/yotube point of view, this PRS group are wanting more and more money, the article says that myspace and a few others are having trouble with the amount they want too. So I support what youtube have done, if someone wants to suddenly have me paying loads more money for something that they aren't really doing a whole lot to earn, I'd tell them to take a hike as well.

How could you say that?! the film was brilliant! first decent, really decent film I've seen in a long while. I'll have to check out the cartoon when I get back up stairs though, pulled the short straw tonight, waiting for the server to finish memtest, trying to find out what's wrong with it:confused:

Your meant to head north. after taking the French town, it should open the map up some more, you get a bit of a cut scene about English and the French fighting, then your told to help them, so you have to take the towns just above, then up into Canada.
