Anyone using SMART Board 600i IWB's?

Are those the integrated projector ones ?

Yeah, we've got a few here. They work fine once the installers came back and connected it up properly.

 

The only complaints I've had is the image colour produced by the projector. I believe this is due to them being DLP as opposed to LCD, which we normally use.

we have 3 of them. they are easy to put up but weigh a ton so make sure you have good walls!!.

 

plus the power button located near the pens doesn't seem to do anything!!!

It should do. We did initally have this problem (with the projectors only being operable from the wired remote) but was fine once everything was connected correctly. The button now switches the projector on and off, as you'd expect.

I have also found the colour isn't good plus they decide to go into a "deep sleep" at the most inconvenient times. You can't get the bloody things out of it.

We've got a couple of these, and I can't say I've noticed the colour problems which other people describe, although have seen a handful of instances of the "deep sleep" which FN_GreaterManchester describes - power off at the wall quickly solves that one though. We did have some teething problems with connectivity, but soon enough worked out that you have to turn the PC on before the board, not the other way round.

 

We have the height adjustable ones, which are brilliant in our Primary; don't think I'd bother in the Secondary though.

We've got 2 in our new science labs as they look good. To be honest they work quite well although installing them really shows how level (or not) your wall is. No-one has moaned about the colour although we did have 1 ghosting the image (dodgy VGA cable). All in all I think they work pretty well.

So are the integrated ones DLP's then? Would this mean we are no longer employed as expensive network managers who go round changing bulbs?

 

Also what happens to the integrated projector if it breaks? Do you have to try and source the same projector? (tricky in a few years time when they no longer make a particular model)

DLP projectors use the same type of bulb as LCD projectors, so replacement-by-competent-person is still necessary.

 

The main benifit of DLP is not having a visible dark grid over your image that LCDs exhibit, and faster response times. They also tend to have dazzlingly bright whites, but a lot of people (including me) find that most other colours are not projected as well as LCD projectors.

Plus some users may be sensitive to the 'rainbow effect' apparent on DLP projectors.

I hate DLP projectors, blues are far too dark, XP Blue may as well be black on the DLPs i've seen. LCD Projectors only for me.
