penfold Posted April 30, 2015 Posted April 30, 2015 As the title suggests, do you actually use Cortana for everyday tasks? The only time I have found it useful is when I have been playing some music and got a text which was promptly read out to me and then I responded and the music carried on playing. While this worked really well it has to be said, I have found myself wondering what I would use it for as it just seems easier to do things manually. So in reality does anyone use it and if so what for?
Valyyn Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I use the reminders quite a lot. "When I get to work, remind me to email so-and-so." "When I get home, remind me to check the website." "At 3pm, remind me to go to IT1" 1
CAM Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Football scores at a glance, that's about it (and only Premier League available). If I ask Cortana to wake me up in 8 hours it fills my alarms app with new alarms. If I need a reminder when I get home, the battery is dead by then anyway. Cortana also can't read my work calendar appointments or give me any vaguely useful travel information. Either way, I'm thinking of abandoning Windows Phone as it is becoming very limiting in what I can do with it.

Duranis Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Go with Android and use Google Now, its awesome Is it? I had a very brief play with it and didn't think it anything special. Maybe I should give it another go and put a bit more time into it. Any examples of particularly useful things to check out on it?
ICTDirect_Dave Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 She used to be pretty good at warning me when there was a fresh wave of covenant incoming... We've not talked since she stopped being badass and went for the corporate personal assistant gig. 1
scotyboy56 Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 Either way, I'm thinking of abandoning Windows Phone as it is becoming very limiting in what I can do with it. I just swapped to an Android phone at the start of the week, as Windows 10 developer preview wasn't really filling me with much hope, and glad I made the move now
plexer Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I use cortana a lot when driving for sms incoming and out going and to actually shock horror dial and make calls. Ben
DalekSec Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 she was my sword and shield for awhile, god I loved that trailer 2
ZeroHour Posted May 1, 2015 Posted May 1, 2015 I use cortana a lot when driving for sms incoming and out going and to actually shock horror dial and make calls. Ben Its still the best in-car out there, I really miss Cortana in the car!
hardtailstar Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Is it? I had a very brief play with it and didn't think it anything special. Maybe I should give it another go and put a bit more time into it. Any examples of particularly useful things to check out on it? @Duranis it is, you need to delve in and immerse yourself for the full potential of it. Before I changed jobs (now working 10 minute walk from house) it would notify me traffic on way to work and way home, my whole life is in it, The more google products you use the more you get out of it.
CAM Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 Its still the best in-car out there, I really miss Cortana in the car! "Cortana get me home." .... ":censored: sake Cortana, get me home." .... Manually launch HERE Drive+ and set destination. Out the phone speakers even though it's connected via Bluetooth "Turn left." "I can't hear you" Quiet: "Turn right" Turn car off and back on Car speakers "Turn left" "Finally!" Radio comes on. Unsure if Cortana is now interrupting the radio properly. Eventually does and radio refuses to come back on. Screen is on entire time, phone refuses to charge via USB in radio, battery dies halfway to destination. My in-car experiences so far aren't as good.
penfold Posted May 5, 2015 Author Posted May 5, 2015 I used Cortana reminders over the weekend and found it really useful. Granted I only set it to remind me to get dog biscuits when I got to the shop, but I can see the potential I think I may start using it more for reminders like that.
LincolnE Posted May 5, 2015 Posted May 5, 2015 I can't say I've ever used Cortana. I believe I can now use it within Windows 10 that I'm testing at home, but I've immediately removed the search bar and all functionality, given it just always seems to get in the way.
john Posted May 6, 2015 Posted May 6, 2015 Cortana in the car is good when I'm driving, I also like some of the features like playing games and winding her up (plenty of sites list the games, chat and commands). Also going Hey Cortana is good and works well if your in the bath / shower and want to change tunes etc...
