[sims] Assessment - Marksheet Entry sloooooooooooooooooow!

Hi folks, just after a bit of advice.

 

If staff want to see marksheets for classes other than their own (Curriculum Leaders and so on), they go through Focus - Assessment - Marksheet Entry.

 

Now, we have been using SIMS for assessment since at least 2003, we have 2300 students, and all that data is swishing around in SQL.

 

Consequently, it takes several minutes for SIMS to show the list of available marksheets.

 

I have deleted any templates we definitely no longer require, both from AM7 and Exams Organiser, and have now deleted any marksheets that we currently don't require as well.

 

I'd say it's probably a bit faster having done this, but it still takes long enough for the CL to put the kettle on and make a brew before settling down to look at all their lovely data.

 

Is there any way I can speed this up. It doesn't take anywhere near as long at our partner academy, with 700 kids and five years' worth of data.

How many marksheets do they see in the list when it has loaded. I have 2400 ish and it loads in seconds. I'm Assessment Manager, and we haven't used it for years, but all teh old data is swishing around We did remove any old marksheets every year though, this helps a lot i guess. They are only ever holders that can be added back again if required.

 

I'm guessing they are seeing marksheets based on their role over the courses, it still shouldn't take that long. Maybe worth requesting teh re-index patch or asking support to take a look.

 

If they have permission, which hopefully they don't, access via teh templates screen may be quicker and easier, but for that, they'd need to be in a group with edit rights on the templates, or in a special custom group.

Actually, I've finished deleting the last of the marksheets. We now have 9500 and it takes now just over a minute. That's a tolerable amount of time in all honesty, how it will be after lunch when there's a massive server load is anyone's guess, though.

No way am I giving that sort of permission to all and sundry...

9500 will be slow, especially if it has to check perms over all of them.

That still sounds like you have too many. I would only keep the current class marksheets. I don't see the point in keeping older. They will mostly like want to review things by year group anyway, and they don't need replacing like the class marksheets do. I guess you just have a lot of templates too...? We have only around 900. Out of 1500 students, but most usage was upper school which is only around 650 students, who would have most marksheets linked to them.

Why don't they make them Favourites? That way they're available on the home screen?
