The BBC website regularly uses bad grammar. Makes me seethe :x (in a Mr Angry kind of way  )

Obviously there are those who struggle with grammar but there seem to be others who just don't even make an effort.

Mobile phone texting has helped to screw english grammar.

Texting has certainly helped kill an understanding of punctuation; it has also left its mark on spelling cos ppl spend 2 long abreviatin so dey dunno how 2 rite no more. (Why is "abbreviating" such a long word, by the way?!)

I remember hearing one of our teachers say to a class that you didn't need to worry about punctuation, spelling, etc when writing emails as they are a more informal communication. Sigh.

On occasion the BBC don't even bother to use English words!

There was an "airplane" crash a while back - they fixed it when I emailed them ranting about standards at the BBC!

Spelling isn't one of their strong points either, lots of "solider" have died in the Iraq war.

That's inexcusable - I have some sympathy for people who mistype one word and get another, from and form for example, but not things like your example as any spell checker would find that.

I dislike bad grammar but I recently read a book called:

Eats, Roots and Leaves - an open minded guide to English by Nicholas Waters

(yes I do have Eats, Shoots and Leaves, the zero tolerance guide as well)

and it did change my mind a bit as it explained that quite a lot of our so-called grammar rules are just what someone once said they preferred (eg not ending a sentence with a preposition, or splitting infinitives). And the 'rule' stating 'i before e except after c' has so many exceptions that it cannot be said to be a rule at all...So I try to be a little less pedantic these days.....

except for apostrophes actually signwritten and presumably paid for!!

I don't mind textspeak WHEN TEXTING but nowhere else please - I think I might be too old to understand it.

I also don't like it when people appear to revel in their inability to spell - why don't they just make the effort and look up words they are not sure of? They will soon remember how to spell if they do.
