Edu-IT Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I thought this was quite an interesting article. Popular Post Domino Posted April 17, 2015 Popular Post Posted April 17, 2015 I'd have thought it was more likely to be a factor in deciding where exactly to move, but not a motivation FOR the move. But obviously I'm not an estate agent - I know this because I have a reflection and can eat garlic. 7
Michael Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 It's no massive surprise - internet connectivity is becoming more crucial for business and leisure. It may in future get the essential tag it requires, along with your water, electric and gas supplies.
localzuk Posted April 17, 2015 Posted April 17, 2015 I'd've thought the main reasons *for* moving house would be things like "new job" and "need a bigger house" or "neighbours set our shed on fire" sort of things. The list they've provided seem to be a mix of reasons for moving, and things people look at when moving.

The list they've provided seem to be a mix of reasons for moving, and things people look at when moving. You're right - but think about it like this. Internet connections are generally becoming faster, because demands for faster speeds are becoming higher. This can be due to more users (members of the family) using the connection and the type of services you subscribe or buy into. In the context of work, more and more people work remotely from home - typically using VPN type solutions. A lot of office base tasks don't necessarily require you to be their in person, but having that reliable online/web presence is crucial. Put it this way, I think it is a genuine consideration for a lot of people/professionals, seeing as the likes of Right Move and others provide links for broadband availability.
strawberry Posted April 21, 2015 Posted April 21, 2015 Broadband speed and phone coverage are terrible reasons to move. Does broadband speed really improve life quality? ,does it not fluctuate from location to location over time anyway?.
howartp Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I wouldn't move FOR broadband, as people have said. However, if I was moving, I would not move anywhere that didn't have fibre broadband (ie only VirginMedia last time I researched, but I guess there are more now) available - I will not use an ADSL internet line regardless of the speeds it quotes. I'm paying little more for our VirginMedia 100mb line (and I get close to it on speed tests) than I was when I signed up for 1.5mb years ago - they just keep doubling it - and it's only been properly down maybe 5 times in that period. Crumpet Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 Broadband speed and phone coverage are terrible reasons to move. Does broadband speed really improve life quality? ,does it not fluctuate from location to location over time anyway?. I don't think they're reasons to move in itself, but if i had a choice between two houses and was torn over which one to buy, the broadband speed would have an influence on my decision if one house had a really bad connection.
