Integrated Desk Solutions

Hi,

I've been tasked with looking into Integrated Desk Solutions, can anyone recommend any companies, and give some feed back on the service they received.

I worked at a school that had two rooms of them, not a decision I was involved in or my predecessors either the SLT decided to do it. Looks great on paper, reality was not as good as it should have been. One room was removed just as I was leaving and the other has now gone and been replaced with standard benching and done in a sensible more standard off the shelf style solution which makes it much cheaper to support. Upgrade costs were also scary high as you could only get the upgrade from them, you could buy some bits off the shelf but they had to be quite specific so it was limiting.

 

My advice is to not go that route your tied to that one vendor, if they go bust your stuffed, if they want to charge a sky high price for a spare part they will and you have no choice. If they want a room that looks a bit more funky / designer get some Isis furniture and put decent off the shelf PCs on it or design your own room like I did. With some decent benching and layout, monitor brackets and Tower holders you can get a decent "all in one" desk solution without the custom parts thus spares are cheap and available all over and much cheaper and easier to upgrade.

We have had two rooms done with kit from Isis Concepts. They were very good and allow us to fit any PCs we want in it.

 

Also had another company in, can't remember their name now, but they insisted we had to buy their machines. They couldn't understand why we didn't like this idea and also were shocked when we asked for an i3 model, not a Celeron that they apparently sell to lots of schools. Were also very rude when told we went with Isis

Moving parts are great for trapping cables. If it was me I would fix pc under desk and have monitor fixed to desk on arm. The keyboard and mouse can then be pushed under the monitor when not in use.

We use Little Dreams in Stoke. They can make pretty much anything you want and have made us some fantastic pieces of furniture in the past.
