How to monitor or stop students from sending abusive mails

Our school is a secondary school and we use exchange 2007. The students have access to students mail groups from the global address book and recently students have hacked into some students account and have sent abusive emails to some of the students mail groups.

Please let me know if you are using any software to monitor and find when abusive email are sent\Is there a way to stop this.

 

Any suggestion much appreciated.

By hacked, do you mean they know the password of other students?

Can you simply remove permissions for the student group to those lists? I'm wondering what your students use those for?

Yes , I think they know some of the students password and have managed to send abusive emails.

 

Regarding students sending emails , I can see Year 7 students have permission to send emails to only year 7 mail group

Year 8 have permission to send emails to only year 8 mail group

Year 9 have permission to send emails to only year 9 mail group

Year 10 have permission to send emails to only year 10 and Year 11 have permission to send emails to only year 11 mail group,

 

They don't have permissions to send to mail other year mail groups(Eg: Year 7 to Year8 and vive versa). I think students may need permissions to send email between their year group and I am not sure if this type of setup is required or not on a teachers and students perspective. This is how it is configured on our exchange by my predecessors.

But I will ask the head of the year if the students will require permissions to send emails between the students mail groups.

 

Can you please let me know in your sets up if the students have permissions to send emails between their year student groups.

could you set up content filtering on Exchange 2007 and find a list of naughty words to add to it, then reject and emails containing words on the list?
