I've had a couple of days off and I've come back to discover my KMS host has beccome, upset.

The KMS server is a 2012 standard box (lets be clear, it's not an R2 box and it was already here when I arrived) and in the last 7 days it's stopped accepting windows 8.1 and 2012r2 clients with the 'SKU not supported' error.

It was previously working fine and it has the patch to add support for 2012r2 and 8.1 installed already.

It allows me to /ipk a windows 8.1 key, but refuses to activate from it, but refuses to allow me to /ipk a 2012r2 key saying sku not found.

Any ideas?

At the moment I don't have the space to bring up another 2012r2 box to become a KMS, so I might try adding KMS to an existing 2008r2 box and installing the patch. My other option is an inplace upgrade of the 2012 box to r2, but as this is a production server and quite heavilly used that is a less favoured option.

as a temp fix could you not just bring up a windows 8.1vm and use that. afaik you cant use a windows 8.1 key on a server as a kms key it needs to be a server key on a server and a workstation key on a workstation

Can you install the patch again? It may be that a Windows Update or similar has interfered with it in the last week. That behaviour is the same as if the patch isn't there, so something odd has happened to it.
