caffrey Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 It's that time of year and its video evidence panic time, so how do you all do it ? We've video that's from iPads in all sorts of orientations at full resolution in .mp4 to video filmed on potatoes. The video is also stored on Google drive and some on home folders which can cause issues as a 3 minute video on an iPad can take up a lot of space. IT skills on editing the video varies from poor to average, there's no standard video editing application in place (I got asked to install movie maker which causes issues with mp4s etc.) oh and there's a week to go. I used to convert it all for them to a usable format for them to edit easily but now video is spread far and wide on different devices there's not a lot I can do So how do you do it ?
3s-gtech Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 We provide a single share that video evidence goes into, divided into subjects that need it. They can place video there, but mostly it is managed by us (we move the videos from devices). We supply camcorders for the job, and some Windows tablets can save video directly to the network too. We don't tend to use iPads for video as they're not supplied school-wide (and it can be a pain transcoding from them). I then use Format Factory to standardise the videos as much as possible, and burn them to DVD with Windows DVD Maker when needed. 1
caffrey Posted March 17, 2015 Author Posted March 17, 2015 I thought I had it sorted last year, but they've left it till last minute as usual - I had scripts that converted to a format that movie maker liked and rotated if needed. I need to ask more questions as I'm not sure what needs editing, They have a shared folder in google drive and the player seems to play any video format, unless they just need to shorten them (would be nice if google had a basic video editor)
Sylv3r Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Our staff are using our Flip Cameras, we rip the video off and save onto portable HDD's. The videos never touch our network. A PE teacher is going to do the editing at home.
